i never know what counts as a rarepair but can i ask about jordan/declan/gansey 👀?

JORDECLANSEY??! I had to get to my computer to give you my thoughts here cause I have several. Get yourself a snack.

I think in a canon-adjacent AU Jordan would clock Declan’s respect, fascination, etc. for Gansey as non-platonic p much right away. Like oh, here’s this family friend that has helped us out a lot, kept Ronan safe, etc. etc. but she sees the way Declan looks at him and she’s like “rightrightright coolcoolcool.” I think she would be amused by Gansey’s ramblings about Glendower and their adventures and roadtrip, etc. etc. Gansey would equally find his conversations with Jordan absolutely enjoyable (art history nerd unlocked).

I think she would invite Gansey over for dinner at their place without telling Declan, who would come home and be… flustered. The two of them would be flustered. Gansey, flustered that Declan might not want him here? he didn’t know it would be a surprise??? And Declan flustered because he knows Jordan and knows that this was a pointed move, whether they talked about his infatuation with Gansey or not. ESP if this is an AU where Declansey have a history like a kiss or two in the big drama grief fest that was Niall’s murder, Ronan’s spiral, etc.

So they’re sitting PLEASANTLY at dinner, small talk, how’s life, how’s business, etc. Jordan is handsy with Declan because she wants to see how Gansey is reacting. To make sure that the feeling is mutual (she expects it is, but she’s gotta know for. sure.) Hand on his leg, sliding up his thigh making him jump, arm around his shoulders leaning into let her hair tickle his neck, her lips at his jaw, his throat, murmuring in his ear. And whoa-ho-ho if you thought Gansey was flustered before, he is beet red now and can’t get a sentence out without stumbling over his words.

Bingo. Got him.

Now I’m always good at the build up and never the execution so you decide what’s next - Jordan makes the boys kiss or she continues to torture them until they do on their own, or she whispers to Declan about Gansey in the bedroom and sees the effect it has on him, asking if he wants to ask Gansey to join them sometime… yaknow there’s lots of places this can GO!

Bonus: Can I also say that I have NUMEROUS feelings about Blue having a bi awakening when she sets her eyes on Jordan for the first time? So can I raise the stakes and suggest you think about Jordecluesey?

rhett nudged the neck of his beer bottle against link’s. “happy valentine’s day, brother,” he said.

link looked up at him, smiling, and rhett’s chest swelled with warmth. link was drunk, or at least tipsy, and color had bloomed in his appled cheeks. the ever-present glitter in his eyes twinkled in the low kitchen light, and even though people milled about and chatted around them, when link looked at rhett, they were the only two souls on earth. link was lounging handsome (as always), leaning against the counter with a beer in his left hand, his right tucking itself back into his pocket after excitedly flailing about as he spoke. however, when he said, “happy valentine’s to you too, rhett,” link’s fingers slicked through his dark hair, combing his bangs back up and into place effortlessly. as if on instinct, rhett licked his lips at the sight of it. 

“you look good in red,” rhett said then, nodding at link’s tasteful button-up.

“yeah? you look good in pink.” that inescapable smile came through again, this time crinkling the corners of link’s eyes. rhett lingered in them for a moment, wading in deep blue and struggling not to drown, before link turned away to greet someone who’d tapped his arm.

rhett took a swig of beer as he kept his gaze on link. the alcohol bled down his long torso and pooled warm in his belly, but it was only somewhat responsible for the blush at the bridge of his nose. scooting closer as link babbled on with the guest, rhett could feel himself go soft and gentle, especially in his eyes. whenever he looked at link, he made a face - this certain, lovestruck face that his wife always called him out on. rhett could feel it happening now - the steady eyes, the soft smile, completely enchanted by the beauty before him.

and he was a beauty, indeed. link was so much looser in his own home, drunk on his own beer. his body curved in as he leaned, and the slope of his nose in profile caught the faintest hint of gold light from christy’s valentine’s candles. rhett was smitten, completely, and hummed along with link’s frequency as he had all his life. here with link, rhett was happy, and that’s all there was to it.

when the guest finally disappeared into the shadowed crowd, link turned back to rhett. there was a moment - just one, merely a second - in which rhett continued to admire link, soft love in his eyes, before link popped off the counter, pressed close, and said, “oh, i almost forgot.”

and then that curious right hand was snaking up rhett’s neck and pulling him down as link lifted himself up onto his tiptoes and kissed rhett full on the mouth. he swayed a bit before pulling back, but rhett chased his lips and landed one last little smooch before link chuckled, clinked his beer to rhett’s, and took a sip in a silent toast, leaving rhett pink and blinking stupidly. 

“that’s what you get for always looking at me like that,” link then muttered.

and right there, with pink and red hearts all over the place and a near-empty platter of chocolate kisses at the center of the dining table, rhett didn’t mind his soft eyes and lovestruck smile. he didn’t mind one bit.
