Rey’s met a large number of people since leaving Jakku. It’s good to socialize, and she’s happy to keep meeting new faces, but that doesn’t make the process any less overwhelming for someone who grew up so isolated. The faces of the resistance already far outnumber the total people she’d become familiar with on Jakku. Now her days are filled with expectant smiles and friendly waves as she walks through the hallways. Rey does her best to keep all of them straight, but she still finds herself tripping and stumbling over names. 

Leia, her only true confidante in all this mess, had told her there was someone arriving today; someone she should definitely meet. The rebels had been busy all week, and Rey, too, had been swept up in the politics and planning against the First Order. Taking a few minutes away from that chaos would be a relief, especially for something as low stress as an introduction. She tails the General down to the hangar, relieved to have a few moments of peace. The attendants are already raising the bay doors when she and the General descend the stairs, allowing room for a personal cruiser to drift inside. Rey hangs back behind Leia as the ship settles into a neat, out of the way space. The General offers a soft smile at the sight, heading over to the ship’s side as a man emerges from the cockpit. 

And Rey can’t quite believe how much he resembles another man she knows, though without all the signs of age she’d grown accustomed to seeing.
