Yes, I did see this article! My dad actually shared it with me too. It's interesting that the fragment is from the Catalogue of Ships, which I think modern readers often find quite dull. Ancient readers must have had a different response!

Hi. How many languages do you speak?

I only speak one language (obviously, English), unfortunately. I used to be able to read Latin and Ancient Greek, but I kinda fell out of practice after college. I can pretend to read French and Italian (i.e., guess the meaning based on words that look similar to Latin). I tried using Duolingo for French and Italian for a while, but I quit that after they introduced AI nonsense into the app.

Hello, I’m studying classics and was considering getting a tattoo of dido, or something symbolic. Do you have any ideas? I wanted a tattoo of some pottery depictions of dido but couldn’t seem to find any.

I don’t recall any ancient pottery with Dido, but there are some depictions of her in Roman frescoes, such as this one of Dido enthroned from the House of Meleager in Pompeii:

My new icon is the head of Proserpine (Proserpina/Persephone) from this engraving by Enea Vico after Parmigianino, which I posted yesterday. I flipped her head to look to the right instead of the left so that she would be looking at a post, not away from it!
