2016 Cummins Differential Pressure Sensor Replacement
Differential Pressure Transducers and Applications
A differential pressure transducer is a device used for measuring the pressure of liquids or gases at various different locations. The differential pressure transducers are also called differential pressure sensors, owing to the physical makeup of such a sensor. The pressure is typically expressed in terms of force per square inch, and is a measure of the effort required to prevent a fluid from moving, measured as the difference between the area where the fluid moves and the area where it remains stationary.
The differential pressure transducers may be made up of a simple spring, which is wound on itself to create a winding, or a diaphragm, which is able to resist compression when pressure is applied. The size of such a sensor will depend on the amount of pressure that is being sensed, the type of input signal, the operating environment, and the type of output signal that is desired. As is well known, a weakly regulated current can produce very weak output signals that can be easily influenced, making for poor quality outputs.
There are many types of differential pressure transducers available for use in applications that require such a device. The type of differential range that is most commonly used is the linear differential pressure transducers, since they can be implemented using a small amount of circuitry and require only a low cost method of power supply. In order to operate these transducers in a broad range of operating environments, the electronics must incorporate a closed loop system, which ensures full utilization of electrical power. These are readily available for use in many industries, because they can be constructed from readily available materials.
There is one type of differential pressure transducers that is commonly used to control and detect the intensity of any type of chemical process, such as for the detection of any organic or inorganic materials when the sample is placed inside of a particular container. These transducers can be activated either by one side passing through a conducting surface or one side of a dielectric material. A portion of one of the transducers can be made exposed, which allows the electrical signals to bypass the dielectric material and reach the sample, if desired. However, one side of the transducer can be made solid, and the other side made permeable, so that the mechanical properties of the sample can be changed by changing the permeability of one or both sides of the transducer. The mechanical properties of one side of a permeable sheet can vary according to the sample, while the mechanical properties of the other side of one can remain constant, provided that the sample does not change significantly.
Another common application of a differential pressure transducer is in the detection of air flow in a given area, as well as its temperature. A differential pressure transducer allows the operator to precisely measure the amount of air flowing through a hose at any given point. If a portion of the hose is clogged or blocked, the performance of this transducer can also be affected. On the other hand, if the air flow is unaffected, the temperature of the surrounding air could be measured, thus allowing the operator to determine the temperature of a manufacturing process or piece of equipment. Other applications of differential pressure transducers include measuring the amount of oil flowing from an oil drum to a compressor or engine, as well as the amount of gas fuel flowing out of a vehicle's carburetor.
A full static line pressure transducer is preferred over a second differential pressure transducer, because it provides better accuracy than a second device in many instances. If one side of the differential pressure transducer experiences a partial separation, the measurement is accurate enough. However, if both sides experience this condition, then the measurement is considered to be inaccurate. In this instance, it is recommended that a device with a full static line pressure rating is selected over a second device. In addition, a high quality differential pressure transducer will usually provide excellent results, providing significant information about the performance of a manufacturing operation or piece of equipment.
