It was some time later. A nap in the little incubator you had built yourself until your numb limbs had effectively unswelled and regained sensation was all you needed. After a similarly hot shower and a change of clothes, you climbed up to reunite with the bounty hunter you traveled with. Din was back in his getup and yet again you wondered how it was comfortable to sit in that hunk of armor.
Comfortable silence hung over the two of you, traveling in the vast nothingness of space to meet with the same person who had given you this bounty in the first place. Despite the downpour and the strong winds, you had been successful and were out for the reward, now. Returning to the somewhat warm planet, the two of you made your way back to collect your reward, far from rain and wind.
Your reward was enough so you could take things slower for a few days, but the prospect of an even bigger reward meant you’d be off this planet quickly, trying to fit another gig in before exhaustion took over and you really needed a break. “So, what can we expect from the next target?” you asked Din, looking towards the reflective helmet.
His response was short.
“Trouble.”
“How fun.”
“Over there it’s winter,” he let you know. He didn’t have to say anything further, the sensation of cold already crept up your back again. “Rain winter or ice winter?” “Ice.” A sigh escaped your lips. Hunting in a more temperate environment would've been nice for a change. A little cold wasn't anything you couldn't deal with, though. Besides, Din could warm you up this time around. “Then I’m getting something warmer to wear.” Din nodded, knowing you could fend for yourself for a little while and he could go after what he needed to buy. “Fine. I’ll get supplies.” He usually meant supplies for his weapons, an occasional dose of bacta if he deemed it necessary. For all the other supplies, he would need your mental inventory list, which mostly consisted of water, nutri bars, bandages and some preserved instant meals. You could get these after getting yourself something to fend off the cold.
The memory of his warm hands rubbing your skin lingered in the back of your mind while you were looking at the shops around you. Your fingers rubbed against one another to mimic what his hands felt like, ultimately failing to replicate the gentle, warm touch.
Your choice ultimately fell upon a scarf that just so happened to have the same color as your eyes. With the scarf, a small first aid kit and more nutri bars in tow you made it back to the Crest, where Din already waited. Keeping to yourself, putting away the bars and rearranging your med kit, you had the scarf loosely around your neck, one end hanging down in front, the other end in the back. Quietly humming to yourself, you checked the bacta and the bandages, when you felt a soft tug on the scarf. How Din had snuck up on you was a mystery, but maybe you had just gotten so used to the sound of his boots that you could filter them out.
“It’s pretty,” Din said when you turned towards him, the one end still in his gloved fingers. “I though I’d gear up before we get surprised by a blizzard. I still remember the rain like it was yesterday … because it was.” There was a chuckle underneath the helmet – one you’ve heard time and time again, yet it never ceased to make you smile. “Think that’s enough to save you from hypothermia?” Gently you pull the scarf from his grip, wrapping it around your neck again and again until the lower half of your face was practically buried in soft knit. “As long as ice doesn’t turn into rain. I’ll be fine,” you mumbled into the softness, already feeling how warm your face was turning. You’d be fine.
Finger by finger, Din pulled one of his gloves off to touch the knit for real this time, feeling how soft it actually was. With his index he pushed the fabric down just enough so he could take your chin in between thumb and index, rotating your face towards him. “It matches your eyes,” he said. Another brilliant observation. Maybe he hadn’t realized before, you were inside his ship in low lighting, after all. Your head moves in a soft nod, not daring to move too much so his hand would become detached. “That’s why I bought it.”
Much to your disapproval the fingers still detached from your chin, but you didn’t protest. Especially not now that you saw him taking one of the loops to pull it up, over your eyes. Feeling him approach and pin you against the wall behind you, you didn’t say anything. Heat rushed to your face and you felt your heart beat quicken. You just let it happen, only let out a noise when the scarf tightened around your eyes, not enough to hurt you but just tight enough it wouldn’t fall off. “What–” “Shhh…” Din held it in place, you assumed. Not sure what to make of it, you waited.
It was dark around you, little rustles and movements your brain tried to put into context. Only when you felt something touch your face, you jolted back a little – a breath. Assuming this meant he took the helmet off, your heart started racing. A soft nudge of his nose against yours meant he was coming closer, and the helmet was indeed off. His breath was so hot against your skin. “No,” you whispered, your body betraying you by leaning in. It wasn’t like you weren’t into this. Maybe you were just a little too shy to admit you had a thing for your companion.
His lips were soft, almost velvety, when they kissed you. Din leaned in more, pinning you against the wall a little harder when he felt your body give into him. His breath was heavier, seemingly enjoying this a little too much himself. You almost felt like protesting when he pulled back to speak to you again. “I’ll make sure you’ll stay warm this time, promise.”
