Neat! I kind of figured out my aspect already but that clarifies some stuff. Btw that wasn’t confusing at all, everything made sense to me.

Homestuck Title stuff.

So my friend Robert has always wondered how I go about picking titles for me and my other friends and I always tell him it's just a general knowledge of the roles and the aspects. But that's really not fair for him because I'm just keeping all the secrets to myself.

So I thought, what the hell, I'll type this huge piece of shit monstrosity out for everyone.

First I think about aspects. It's a lot easier to determine a role after the aspect has been pinned down.

Since I go by Boot's aspects and theories (I'm willing to stake my life on them all being canon) you have to understand that people's actions are sourced in two aspects. Negative and positive.

Now don't confuse these with good and bad. There are no good and bad aspects. They have no alignment, and players in them have no alignment either. Take the Condesce. All Peixes are Life players, an aspect whose defining nature is one of positivity and resurrection. The Condesce on the other hand was a ruler of a conquering race of blood thirsty aliens. I wouldn't peg that at any state of good nature. 

No, negative and positive is more like states of mind. Negative is how someone would act if their mental clarity was skewed or they was acting against their aspect. Positive is how a character acts when they're clear headed and working to advance their aspect. Negative is the inverse aspect while positive is the aspect at hand. Every character acts in only two aspects. 

Negative - Positive ------------------ Knowing and perceiving: Light - Void

Energy to influence: Life - Doom

Paths, drive, and passion: Breath - Blood

The individuals impact: Mind - Heart

Faith in possibility: Hope - Rage

Physical existence: Time - Space

(Aaaaah, I just realize that that chart makes it look like the ones of the left are the negative ones and the ones on the right are the positive ones. Pbpbpbpbpppptpt I'm sorry this is so confusing. Those are just the opposites. Negative and positive don't come into question unless there's a character. On their own it's just their opposites. Get it? Please get it. I'm sorry I'm so confusing. It's a lot of stuff to take in.)

(Negative - Positive stuff is just Boot's inverse stuff. So later when I say things like inverse and oh well the opposite of this is that, that's where that all comes from)

So this is how I put an aspect to a person. I'll use myself as an example. I think about what I spend most of my time doing, Tumblr/the internet, and why I do that, GAIN ALL THE KNOWLEDGE. So, right off the bat, Light. So much Light. I am undeniably a Light player. That wasn't a very good walk through. I'm pretty spot on.

Okay, I'll use someone else. Chelsea. Okay, she's always drawing and stuff. She's got a garden. She works at McDonald's. Hm, what else is there. She's really optimistic. I'd say she tries really hard to view things with optimism even if it's not really the wisest thing to do. She's very happy or puts on a front. (Chelsea's going to read this and be like, "What the fuck? You don't even... What? Oh my god. Who are you describing? That's not me. Oh ymg do.") Now, why do I BELIEVE she does these things (I'm not a psychologist). Well, she draws because it's expressive, she uses it as a tool of expression, so she doesn't keep emotions in and stuff. The garden is like a side thing that helps me classify her, I'll talk about this in a minute. Oh, at work she smiles and is MEGA nice to everyone even if they don't deserve it. She's like the best fast food employee ever, when it comes to customer service. She's optimistic, there's a ton of reasons that she's optimistic and I don't want to pin one down. 

OKAY, with all of that in mind, it's pretty clear to me that Chelsea is a Life player. Life is an aspect of optimism, state of living, strength, and energy. Most of everything that I've told you about her is her way of finding ways to influence her state of life. Like, optimistic nature is all about not thinking bad thoughts. Expressing herself so that she doesn't keep feelings bottled up. Nice to customers so that maybe her kindness will rub off on them. Garden spreads Life, giving life, tending to life, even on such a small scale. (I'm starting to, like, ramble.) 

Okay. (I've started like the last three paragraphs with okay. Let's keep this up .These are definitely the best writing skills known to man.) Now, let's have a look at how Chelsea uses Life. I've already made it pretty clear that she tries to make positivity where there might not be much. She's repairing lifeless situations. So she's prolly a Sylph, and by prolly, I mean definitely. Sylphs mend there aspect so that it may thrive in places where it might not have been before.

Take Kanaya for example. She's taken to interior decorating because it creates a healthy space where it might not have been before. She organized Vriska's room because she realized that all of those pieces were prolly painful to step on. Effectively, healing the space. She tries to auspitize even when it's not unnecessary, trying to create a healthy environment.

Well, isn't that exactly what Chelsea's doing when she tells people to have a nice day at work? Creating this positivity that people that can take with them, well trying to. Drawing her emotions so that she has a positive head space. Tending to a garden where these veggies wouldn't exist without her help. In my mind, Chelsea is definitely a Sylph of Life. 

So back to that negative and positive bullshit.

That's positive Chelsea, negative Chelsea would be Doom, the aspect of pessimism and self sacrifice. The Prince of Doom, at that. The Prince is the destroyer and as the destroyer of Doom, she'd still be, in a sense, promoting Life. The destroyer class, naturally, ghosts their inverses. Destroying their aspect and as a result the opposite thrives. 

So, in a stressful situation, Chelsea would stop creating positivity but instead start destroying pessimism. The focus changes from staying positive to make sure that she doesn't start thinking negatively. It's a pretty neat inverse, and very defined. There's a small line between the two but it's still there.
