DJBC Holiday Tumblr 22 - The Holidays in the Discovery District

There were several stops along the way in the Discovery District, which is home to several Downtown Columbus Institutions, such as the Columbus Museum of Art, the Main Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, Columbus State Community College, the Columbus College of Art and Design, and the Topiary Park, to name a few. And Christmas Corner has been a tradition at State Auto for 92 years.

It was hard to pick just 30 highlights, but we mixed in some from the Discovery District Trolley Hop, the State Auto Christmas Corner, and the Huntington Holiday Train at the Main Library, as well as the "Think Outside the Brick" at the Columbus Museum and the Loving Holiday Castle.

DJBC Holiday Tumblr 22 - Columbus Metropolitan Library Open House

For the first time since 2019, the Main Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library hosted their Holiday Open House, which featured performances, live reindeers, activities for children, and the lighting of the tree in the new Kaufman Plaza, which connects the library to the adjacent Topiary Park in the Discovery District neighborhood of Downtown Columbus. However, the main draw of the event was the Huntington Train, on loan from Huntington Bank, which is way more accessible to the community, than when it was located at Huntington Bank at High and Broad Streets.

We also couldn't help but to pick up a few good reads for those cozy winter nights at home in front of the tree.

The Huntington Train will be up through January 8. The Library will be closed Christmas (December 24-26) and New Year's (December 31-January 2) weekends.

There are a slate of holiday events at many of the 23 branches of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, which encompass both neighborhoods and suburbs. For more, go to http://www.columbuslibrary.org.

DJBC Tumblr Summer 22 - Wonderball 2022 (Part 2)

New York has the Met Gala. Columbus has their own version of the Met Gala. Wonderball, normally held in the late Winter since 2015, was moved to Virtual in 2021, and in 2022 - moved to the merry month of May, on (fittingly enough) Friday the 13th.

Here are some more highlights from the (Sold Out) Winter in Spring Gala, which was both indoors and outdoors this year at the Columbus Museum of Art.

National Library Week 22 - Book Sale & Checkout Challenge

Last weekend, we stopped by the Main Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library to take back a really good book (that couldn't be renewed, because it is one of the library's "Quick Picks" - Atlas of the Heart by Brene Brown)

The Friends of the (Columbus Metropolitan) Library Book Sale was also last weekend, in their Larry D. Black Auditorium. We did pick up a few CD's, to hopefully listen to some day. We did find some good finds, that hopefully have been re-purposed by fellow library lovers.

We will talk more about their Checkout Challenge over the course of the week, but patrons at ALL 23 of their Branches are encouraged to check out materials over the course of the week. This week is also the 115th Anniversary of the opening of the Main Branch in 1907.
