Fitz tried to give a hurried shake of his head, willing himself to at least appear normal enough to hold off anyone’s worry. Having people worry over him was the last thing he wanted, especially when he had enough experience to know how to handle these types of situations on his own. He’d taken to calling them ATTACKS, mostly because he felt like he was being ambushed by emotions that hadn’t been there only a few minutes before, and they only every happened when he ran out of leads -- which was exactly why he was gripping the edge of his desk with shaky hands.
Usually, he was alone for them, because it was rare that anyone made the trip down to the basement anymore now that he actually left willingly and ate and slept at appropriate hours, but on this occasion, he had a surprise visitor. There was nothing wrong with her visiting, not when he was starting to feel alone in the otherwise empty basement, but if she’d show up just five minutes later, THIS could have been avoided.
Between shaky breaths, the former SHIELD engineer tried to make himself speak. He needed to make sure no one was worried enough to consider making him stop and leave -- just like Coulson did, which had driven him to go to Hydra in the first place. Fitz didn’t think he could he would be able to handle being kicked out of somewhere else.
“I’m okay... I’m fine... I’m going to look for another lead so I can get her back, and then I’ll be okay... I’m just... STRESSED... please, don’t make me leave...!”
❝ — i think i finally understand why everyone at OPERATIONS always looks like they want to tear your HEAD OFF. ❞ words are jumbled against the side of his PALM, as thumb and forefinger rub absently at the bridge of his nose. ❝ it’s been A WEEK and i already feel like i could kill a man for an aspirin. ❞

Victoria had heard about this woman from Coulson and Melinda, but she’d been hard-pressed to believe someone had chosen to serve with Ward. To love him, in whatever twisted, Stockholm syndrome way she did. Someone for everyone, she guessed.
“Agent 33. In case you were wondering, no, I’m not here to kill you. Simply to assess a threat, up close and personal.”

Fitz hadn’t been in the building for more than a week and a half, and most of that time he spent alone, doing all the research he could on the monolith from what he remembered about it. He had a fairly nice set up in the basement, and no one bothered him, which was exactly how he liked it until he realized how quiet it could get. That was the only reason he’d ventured upstairs -- searching for one of the few familiar faces within the organization and finding himself almost pleasantly surprised with his success. Taking a slow breath and glancing around before stepping into the room, the former SHIELD agent sought out a chair before speaking up.
“That makes two of us...”
