Artist Spotlight: DISPATCH

If anyone ever tells you that the only way to make it in the music industry is to make songs that are "catchy" enough to be overplayed on your local radio station; or that being signed to a record label is the only way you'll be heard, just take a look at the band DISPATCH.

They're an independent band from Boston that toured extensively through the 90's until 2002. They grew their fanbase with a combination of staying after shows to meet with fans and encouraging them to download and share their music through Napster. They believed that they needed to earn their fans' respect before they asked them to purchase their music or come see them on tour. It's because of that transparent intimacy that they were able to play a farewell show to over 110k fans at Hatch Shell, Boston. Even more impressive was their reunion show, DISPATCH: Zimbabwe at MSG in 2007 which sold out in mere minutes, forcing them to add two more shows which sold out even faster! They became the only independent band to ever sellout MSG and to add to the craziness, they donated EVERY CENT to charities in Zimbabwe.

It's because of their unwavering devotion to their fans and their music that they're able to be on the last leg of their 2011 summer tour, having just played the inaugural concert at Red Bull Arena packed to the brim with 25,000 of their most devoted fans.
