Musings Part II.

   It was unusually warm for November in the Pacific Northwest with temperatures reach seventy degrees for the past week. I had spent the last few weeks completing life and where I was standing in the world. I graduated high school ten years ago and moved across the country soon after following my now husband who had accepted a job offer for repairing helicopters.  I shrugged off the thoughts, and I put on a light jacket to head for Pike’s Market as it was quickly a 40-minute drive from DuPont. The last few weeks I have had the feeling that my anxiety was starting to come back after being absent for the previous five years. Five years. That is how long it has been since I last talked to my mother or him. Him. The bane of my existence. The control freak that believed I did not fit into his “family”.

Musings

   After meeting for the first time in five years, her words to her stepfather were short and sweet. “I win.” The last five years were spent separated due to the animosity my stepfather had towards my lifestyle. In all reality, the man had only come into the picture over 20 years ago with his infant daughter that was just six months old. I had been a seven-year-old child that was used to being the only child of my mother and did not particularly care for how the man tried to get me to like him.
