Every year, sometime around the solstice, my neighborhood sets up candles in paper bags all along the street, this year when I went out to go look at them with my dad we stopped on a corner to wait for a car to pass, I stood above one of the lights staring at it. The cloud cover was dense that day, and the moon could barely show, even though it was full. I was wearing my mask and tail, and as the car passed I got the feeling that I looked like something more than human to that car, a stranger with a cat's face and tail, standing over a luminary, like it ment something important, illuminated only by the car's headlights and that light, I felt divine.
