UGH an arthur morgana blog that updates regularly?! YOU ARE A GEM I JUST LOVE YOU
THANKS WE LOVE YOU TOO!!
Hi I'm the anon from yesterday! I'm actually a friend of a friend of yours (try saying that five times) and since we share a blog I often see your posts. You share a lot of the same fandoms as me and you seem hella rad. It feels kinda weird to interact with you because the mutual friend is absent but I'm kinda curious about you. Whoops this is actually a pretty long ask.
Hi! Don't feel weird at all m8. You seem hella rad too.
Aah this is all so flattering I didn't think anyone would be curious about me ever. Feel free to drop me asks/kik/tweet/whatever your preferred method of communication is!
Every time I see your posts on my dash I always sit and think to myself 'wow that's a great graphic/photo' and it sometimes leaves me in silent awe. You have a great eye for these things.
You’re too kind, thank you.
I love you a lot. Come off anon and talk to me whenever (let’s be friends, yo.) ((if you want!))
It's your birthday soon! Are you cancer zodiac sign?
Yeah, but I’m not a big believer in astrology.
i honestly think that people exaggerate the underrepresentation problem. yes it needs to be fixed, but it's not like fandom is purposely doing these things because of their ethnicity. rather, the way they are written is what desexualizes them: Asian women are "dragons" and are fierce and indepedent, likewise for darker women "needing no man". in most shows, the cast is primarily white because the setting is primarily white (reminder that pocs are the minority) don't blame fandom, blame creators.
Although I respect your opinion on the matter and thank you for sharing it with me, I don’t fully agree.
Yes, the fandom is not purposefully doing things. But, in a way, isn’t that even more of an indication that there’s something wrong? If the fandom doesn’t even notice that characters are being written in accordance to racial archetypes, it’s somewhat like subconscious reinforcement.
Plus it’s easy to say “yeah, it’s the showrunner’s fault”, and pin the blame on them for writing with stereotype. Because, yeah, sometimes they’re racist. At the same time, if a show is being racist and it’s been running for 20 seasons without a word about it from the fans, then there’s something clearly wrong. The fans are an indicator of a show’s success, outreach and message. If a racially stereotypical TV programme has loads of fans, it is further normalising racial stereotype as well as showing that a racist worldview is commonplace.
What a lot of these posts are trying to do is tell fandoms that maybe they miss some things that are prejudiced/racist. I see it less of a slight toward non-POC than a little bit of a reminder that there are still a few things that can be changed.
I know sometimes the messages are really forceful and sometimes they offend people. But, in the end, we all just want a nice experience in fandoms. And this experience can be made nicer and more inclusive for POC without compromising the enjoyment of non-POC.
A lot of the shows are in a white setting, yeah. However, the globalisation of the world is moving rapidly and so to should the globalisation of the media.
What armor fics would you reccomend?
