Being talented at your art is one thing, but being able to perform it to the audience at large is another subject. I think society favors those who are able to captivate an audience and hold their attention, regardless of what it is you’re doing or saying. I’m sure everyone knows that brilliant kid who is the master at their own technical subject, but when they try to explain it to someone they are at a loss for words. They have the knowledge and ability, but they lack the proper channels that it takes to connect with their audiences. DJs can also learn a thing or two about connecting with their listeners. They may hop on stage with twenty club dropper songs ready to go – but they will leave the club without any of the crowd members gaining their respect, as they did not grab their attention.
I know it is hard to be eccentric in a world that pays for conformity, but there are a few tools a DJ can use to develop their own introduction. Name drops are still used, and although they can be cheesy they are still a great way to get your name out. A creative intro that sets you apart doesn’t need to have a name drop in it as long as its clever.
