On the theme of opposites, Dlan is claustrophobic, while Ashalle feels safer in tight spaces, especially with her back protected. When they slept in the same bunk in Dlan’s cabin, Dlan would take the side near the window and Ashalle would curl into the wall side behind her.

Eunhee and Eli fell in love the way a fire starts, so slowly that nothing seemed to happen at all and then all at once until everything is devoured. They are a constant push and pull; she pushes closer and he pulls away. Not always for the wrong reasons...

Ashalle and Dlan also have a constant push and pull as their communication skills and self reflection could use a lot of work, (and they don’t shy from getting a little hot and steamy at times ^^)

I hope you're still doing the relationship facts thing! My two ocs Galilea and Victor have a slow burn romance only for it to be ruined when they find they are both serial killers and have been trying to find each others identity in order to murder the other for daring to destroy 'their masterpieces' (the murders). This leads to them trying to kill each other but being flirty about it. They reconcile while trying to kill Galilea's father and then become a couple at the very end.

Ooooh I love this! Tension-filled villainous romances can be so much fun 8D 

VtS opens with Dlan and Ashalle accidentally running into each other again for the first time months after their own slow burn romance came to a jarring and disastrous halt. Unbeknownst to Ashalle, Dlan had always been a con artist, and at this point Ashalle is now a peacekeeper. Honestly it’s a miracle they don’t kill each other on the spot.

For your ask game: What’s something behind the scenes which went into creating their relationship? Ellaise and Jace are in a platonic relationship as my main 2 ocs. When I was creating them it was a big deal to me in their characterization that they NOT have a romantic subplot. I feel like a lot of books I read end up having main guy and main girl fall for each other. But it was important to me to show that a girl and guy can have a healthy friendship without defaulting to romantic involvement.

That’s fantastic! I love seeing healthy friendships between guys and girls in fiction, and we definitely need more of them <3

A guy/girl friendship thing that happened behind the scenes for VtS was actually an accident. I had a couple side characters I threw in at the last moment and was planning to ignore two of them (Griesh and Alvada) to focus on Ashalle’s friendship with the last one (Epi), but Epi immediately went into shock and wouldn’t talk to anyone, and Griesh ended up being the character who interacted with Ashalle. They didn’t become friends, but Griesh provided a good substitute foil until her real foil could show up later, and did form a friendship with Dlan.

Aaaah okay I'm no good at this but I will try. I think I'll talk about Jade and Shell (also known as Sean) as I don't talk about them much. It's worth noting that people asked Shell what his favorite form was (as Jade was a shapeshifter and always took new forms) he would just shrug and say "Nothing can compare to Jade herself." When Jade was asked what she saw in Shell as many saw him as unremarkable or strange, she would smile and say, "I see Shell, and that is the greatest sight of all."

Ashalle and Dlan are still trying to reach a place like that through the bulk of VtS. Dlan has been running cons alone for so long that she doesn’t have any true sense of self—she’s whoever she needs to be in the moment—and she feels that if she wants to settle down with someone she’ll have to form a stable identity and she’s afraid of who she’ll become of that happens. But Ashalle loves Dlan as she is and can’t figure out how to prove that.
