but nate said, “wow.” and the sound of his voice was clearly disbelieving. “okay."

shit. nate didn’t believe him. which meant that nate knew. knew how much kit wanted him. this was a disaster… he knew and he sounded mad. 

of course he sounded mad! he was probably freaking out.

kit swallowed, stupidly nervous. his heart was pounding too fast. “nate?” 

but nate shook his head. he said, “i don’t want to sleep with you tonight.”

it was pointless to cry — he’d always known this was how this kind of thing ended. it was pointless to feel bad about it, pointless to toss and turn over it. he should just go to sleep. 

pointless for his heart to break — but tell that to his heart.

“you’re going out again? i was hoping we could chill here tonight.” yeah, he definitely sounded like the girl in this relationship. what the fuck.

“ash wants to check out this new bar.” kit shrugged, adjusting his collar. nate couldn’t help but notice that he looked really fucking good. like, really good. he smelled good too, in a way that made the pit of nate’s stomach tighten. 

he didn’t like it.

he tried not to watch danielle and shayla make out in the living room — instead shifting his attention to the tv and leaning back — but before he knew that his mouth was saying it, he’d already uttered: “i miss kit.” 

once her mouth was free, dani scoffed and looked over at the digital display for the time. “he’ll probably be home any minute.”

“why didn’t you just go to lunch with them?” shayla prodded, fixing her clothes and giving nate a look that spoke of way too much judgement. “he said you could go.” 

“he didn’t really say it like he meant it.” nate grumbled and both dani and shayla rolled their eyes.
