[su_quote]Long walks in the forest, Jonatan’s place in the archipelago… or just the techno clubs.. It’s all there![/su_quote]
How did you decide on Draft to be the single to come back into the limelight?
We originally made the song as an 8 min instrumental for our Asia tour about a year and a half ago, and it became an instant favorite to play live. I guess it felt natural for us to experiment with it’s structure and melodies and then bring it our label to give it some wings..
How would you describe the work done this past year in the studio?
Dynamic. We’ve created a lot of music and has quite a few tracks more or less ready, and they all sound quite different from each other. Some are long, intensive instrumental tracks and some are more like pop tracks with a lot of vocals… We’ve just did what we felt like
What artists motivate and inspire you from youth and today?
Radiohead, Olafur Arnalds, Tale Of Us, Kiasmos, and ofc ABBA…
Any pre-show rituals that just can’t be stopped?
Soundcheck? Sorry that wasn’t even funny. (it kinda was)
(Individual) Album you can’t stop listening to?
Claes: Supercollider single or A Moon Shaped Pool album by Radiohead,
Jonatan: The war on drugs – Lost In The Dream, Peter Green – In The Skies
A drink that does the work to get you pumped for a show or an after-party?
There’s nothing like a good cup of coffee in the morning
Place in Sweden that you would consider filled with an aura that inspires the creation of music?
Long walks in the forest, Jonatans place in the archipelago… or just the techno clubs.. It’s all there!
The mantra and/or philosophy of DNKL?
Stay in school!
What does 2017 hold for this talented trio?
Hopefully we will release some more music and get back on the live scene.. We’ll definitely continue to dig ourselves in our studio.

“Swedish Noir-Pop Make Long Awaited Comeback”
Draft is one of those words with both good and bad meanings in English. Draft can be the first thing you hand in, a step to having completed a paper, or a book, or even an email that must be scrutinized first. A first step, but a conquering of the blank page or electronic…

Listen: DNKL - Draft
Originally written as an 8-minute instrumental track ahead of an Asian tour, it quickly became a live favourite. Talking of the process of then committing the track to tape, DNKL said “When we got back home we brought it to the studio and started experimenting with vocals and structure, challenging our ways of songwriting and production, but at the same time trying to keep a dark vibe to it. This is probably the most up-tempo track we’ve done so far but also a song where we’ve brought in the darkest lyrics yet written. Somewhat of a paradox that makes the song even more personal."
Once again showing how the band craft a unique atmosphere with their ethereal vocals and esoteric textures, ‘Draft’ masterfully twists through it’s emotive lyrical sections before opening up into a propulsive, instrumental electronic groove.
Have a listen to their earlier track ‘Hunt’, which we posted 3 years ago, for a quick comparison on the change from their darker roots.
