There Is No Such Thing As Internet Doomsday.
Everyone is talking about Internet Doomsday on Twitter.
The Indonesian word, "Kiamat Internet", was a trending topics worldwide on Twitter yesterday.
Although that this topic is interesting, this is not relevant to what the reality is, people are taking it too far.
Okay first of all, let me explain.
It all started with a malware called DNSChanger, what that malware do is to manipulate Windows Registry and DNS setting on a PC running Windows OS.
From now on, I assume you know what a DNS is (or if you don't, click the link above).
With that malware, hackers could manipulate the way a user of an infected computer when browsing the Internet. It can alter your search result, replace website with ads, compromise your privacy, and many more. With these ads, these hackers are reported to have acquired $10 Million (Yes, you got that correct, that's real money, legit).
Now what's the big deal? With those annoyance I can still access the Internet right?
Yes, you can.
But, what if every Internet Providers block the DNS used by DNSChanger? You'll end up dead, you can't just type twitter.com, you'll have to type 199.59.149.230. Even worse, web pages are coded to use domains instead of IP Address. So, images, javascript, and the all the content would not load properly.
And that what's happen in 9th of July, ISPs are blocking DNSChanger's DNS. And that's why, it'll be a "doomsday"... For these infected PCs.
Now that you can actually visit kclkcl.com, most probably you are not infected by DNSChanger. But if you think you did, you can head to this site to check if you are infected by DNSChanger.
What if I am Infected? DCWG has an interesting page about how to remove this malware.
What should I do now? Protect yourself! Install an Antivirus, I recommend Avast. It's free, but you have to register, which only takes a minute and lasts up to a year.
And now if you already have one in your PC, make sure that you update it at least once a day. And don't install more than one Antivirus software. It will cause problems, just make sure that your antivirus is always updated. There would be very little chance of being infected.
