Her Fatal Ways, released in 1990, stars Dodo Cheng as a police inspector from Mainland China, who extracts a drug-dealer to Hong Kong Police. Unfortunately, the drug-dealer escapes in Hong Kong and both authorities cooperates on this case. The culture differences are the main drive of this comedy, the jokes may be sarcastic and the dialogues may also seem some logical extensions for the future Hong Kong. Even with the formularic plot of the crime stories in 90s HK cinema, the movie delivers many laugh-out-loud moments and it still has its importance after 30 years. 

Dodo Cheng offers a powerful performance which cements her status as a top comedic actress in Hong Kong cinema. She is fully committed to the role as we see her body movements, the Guangzhou accented Cantonese, and the fluent way of her switching dialects. 

Now many people might feel nostalgic about 90s Hong Kong — the neon-lighted streets symbolising the boom of the city, the colonial atmosphere, and the glorious past of Hong Kong Cinema. In retrospect, the film shows us that one essential factor of success is creative freedom.
