Very disturbed by this AI “dog expert” profile I just came across. Using the fake image of a black man to hawk collagen products or something. We live in the worst timeline.

I realized I never posted Banshee's Embark results on here. I know these are not fully accurate, but given what an absolute hellion this girl has been from the day we found her in the road as a tiny puppy, I think this mix would explain a lot. She is 14 this year and still a wild child. She has been a challenging dog (hence being at ACS for life), but we still love her to bits.
god bless the endless lack of reading comprehension on dogbook

Goodbye, heatwave
We've just been through a heatwave in Los Angeles with temperatures over 100 degrees. The air is smokey from wildfires to the north (Altadena) and south (Orange County ) of us. Meanwhile, my daily internet feed is full of unfunny memes about ethnic immigrants eating pet dogs and cats, the ongoing US-funded deaths and horrors in occupied Palestine, and what November will bring. I envy all creatives who can maintain focus and optimism!
Well, there is one thing I am looking forward to: My new book - Dogs of the World now has a cover, publication date, and can be preordered!
Meet more than 600 types of dogs in this captivating canine gallery, from the English Springer Spaniel and Moroccan Aïdi to the Thai Ridgeback and New Guinea Singing Dog. Packed with fascinating tidbits and hundreds of illustrations, Dogs of the World also shines a welcome spotlight on the world's 85 percent of dogs who are no breed at all, including mutts and village dogs.
You'll learn about different dog types and their working roles, such as herding, livestock guarding, scent detection, dog sports, and companionship, and understand what terms like purebred and landrace mean. Trace the history of our modern dogs through a vibrantly visual timeline, and pick up insights on breed health risks, personality traits, and how breed ancestry DNA tests work.
Featuring adorable artwork and research vetted by dog history experts, behavior professionals, and veterinarians, Dogs of the World is a loving and accessible guide to the diversity of our canine companions.
Dogs of the World: A Gallery of Pups from Purebreds to Mutts is Published by Ten Speed Press, Penguin Random House - April 01, 2025.

I can't wait.
mudi people are interesting because like. obviously almost every breed has some degree of gatekeeping, a lot of it is more along the lines of “ohh this breed is so hard, you can’t handle them, you have to be an EXPERT TRAINER to handle one of these dogs”, etc etc. but then with mudis ppl are like, “this dog is actively annoying and unpleasant to be around. don’t get one.” like bro??? i’m not sure if this is like a new level of gatekeeping or if they just genuinely hate their dogs. either way it’s so sad. obviously i’m all for being realistic about a breed (i’ve shared pros and cons of mudis many times), but they legitimately say that they’re unlikable and recommend ppl not to get them. WILD.

Sukie's ABC / E.S.H
E. Helene Sherman artist. Typography and binding by Robert E. Massmann; Eloise C. Massmann colorist.; REM Miniatures publisher Printed at Art Press
This little book features a miniature French poodle named Sukie, who helps the author showcase every element of the alphabet. Each letter has a full-page illustration which features Sukie, as well as bright hand coloring and some nice floral decorations as well!
This is part of a continuing series featuring pet minis in conjunction with the of the new pet themed exhibit that is now up in the reading room. This particular item is from the corresponding mini exhibit, put together by Rachel, so make sure to take time to see that wonderful collection as well, for more fun finds like this!
Not sure if Sukie was a fan of the Halloween season, but this poodle certainly is!

I just really need to say this, as I'm on a Fuck Dogbook Rant Today
Honestly, I never ever comment in doberman breeder threads anymore if I can avoid it. I never recommend my mentor. I never recommend anyone. I'll answer questions but those threads frustrate me to no fucking end.
People popping off at the mouth when their ONLY source of knowledge is "dogbook wisdom." People talking about DCM when they know nothing about DCM. People promoting breeders that NO ONE involved in the breed would touch, or would recommend. It's just exhausting.
Breeder declines to sell to someone and they get dragged. Hell, I had someone try to lecture me on how I was going to raise MY litter and I'm a shitty breeder if I don't do it Exactly The Dogbook Approved Way.
Dogbook is toxic and I'm over it.
