Valley of the Silk Sky Status Report
When, you may ask, is chapter 8 going to make an appearance?
My current project is an autobio comic for the all-trans anthology We’re Still Here, to be published by Stacked Deck Press. It’s live on Kickstarter now, should you be in the market for a giant tome of trans comics. Once that’s done, I’ll start penciling Chapter 8.
Speaking of Stacked Deck Press, the Butch Lesbians of the 20s, 30s, and 40s coloring book is now available for sale. I have two illustrations in there. Check it out if you wanna be judged by my drawing of Jane Heap (or, I guess, party with my drawing of Joe Carstairs).
Another project I recently finished is my comic for the upcoming Secret Loves of Geeks anthology, which will be out from Dark Horse Comics in February 2018. So you should keep an eyeball or three open for that.
So yeah. Things have been busy!
I did whip up this new drawing of Hali & Razi doin’ a science, just for funsies. For those of you tracking chronology (which possibly is just me), this scene takes place about a year after the events in “Medicine; Run,” my Valley of the Silk Sky story from the first Beyond Anthology.
So, I have a personal, ongoing mission to figure out the best way to act like a preening, fantasy villain.
Current experiment: Best way to apply scented oil to the hair. Said hair is approximately long enough to reach just below my shoulders, however due to natural curls that would put salon quality perms to shame, it usually sits just above them. Standard pre-experiment procedure: Full wash. Shampoo and conditioning performed separately (No 3-in-one bullshit here). During the conditioning process, hair is brushed straight. First experiment: Apply oil to hair directly, then use hands/hairbrush to distribute it evenly. Experiment result: Failure. The oil simply got absorbed by the hair where it was applied, with very little of it actually spreading to the tips. Experiment was repeated a second time for the same results. Second experiment: Create a simple water/oil emulsion, then use hands/hairbrush to distribute. Experiment result: Ongoing. The hair is still wet from the emulsion and is currently in the process of being air-dried thanks to the subject having ample time to do so. However, due to the water acting as a far more observable marker than the oil alone, indications are that is was applied to most if not all of the hair. This is likely indicating a more favourable result than the oil alone.
I’m putting my transition journal to-do list HERE so I will get it done and so it will be here for me when I scroll back on my dash tomorrow and am going, “Okay, I need to get stuff done, but I have to do a to-do list...” SURPRISE, future me! I’ve already done it. You’re welcome.
make a transition journal folder in your dropbox folder to put all this stuff into
decide on a name/date scheme for naming files
figure out schedule for doing recordings and taking photos
design and make mood chart template
design and make physical changes log
design and make measurements log
find microphone
write down what I want to say in the recording - name, date, days on T?
(find recording software? sound recorder should do the job, this doesn’t have to be fancy, but...)
do voice recording
give myself a haircut (bluhhhh, but if I don’t do it it won’t get done and I look awful right now)
decide whether or not to keep my wild old man eyebrows or pare them back down to punctuation
find an area of the flat good to take a photograph in
clear out clutter from area
have J take a full-body and a face photograph of me
get this all done by Tuesday because if I take too long I’m going to mess up the results
