“ lavi, can i talk to you for a moment? ” pale blue eyes focus on the redhead before they quickly avert away from him. “ that is if you have a moment. ” shaking his head, doug bites down on his lower lip. he knows that lavi is usually busy, but... he needed to know this.

he glances up from writing, pale blue eyes focusing on lavi. he wasn’t sure what the other wanted, but he puts down his notebook and pokes the redhead back. a small smile makes its way onto doug’s lips and he tilts his head, giggling softly.
“ something wrong? ”

they had just been talking, like they usually do, yet when lavi had leaned over, his next actions take doug off guard. lavi is often unpredictable, but this has probably taken the prize for his most unpredictable action.
the finder can feel his heartbeat grow faster as his eyes widen for a moment and he flusters. he blinks once before deciding to enjoy this, closing his eyes and leaning into lavi’s kiss. he knows very well that lavi could be just messing with him, but chooses to hope and believe that he isn’t.
he stays there for a moment before deciding to be the one that pulls away. he keeps his eyes closed for a moment, drawing in breath before pressing a kiss to lavi’s chin. opening his eyes now, he grins and leans back in for another quick kiss.
“ s-so… what was that for? ” he asks, still grinning, pale eyes seeming to glisten.

Doug wasn’t alone in the heartbreak, since the redheaded exorcist felt like he was drowning. His vision swam, but tears did not leave his eyes, nor did he let Doug see the emotion that crossed over his face. “If I had a choice, though ─── I wouldn’t let you out of arms reach,” Lavi mumbled under his breath, biting the inside of his cheek when his eyes stung with the tears he refused to shed.
“ it’s just who you are, lavi. you can’t help that. ” he gives another smile, this one managing to stay. doug’s gaze trails up once more to focus on lavi and he hesitates for a moment before simply reaching up to ghost his fingertips over the other’s jawline before stepping back.
“ don’t worry about it, okay? ”

hearing that immediately breaks doug’s heart, yet he knows he should’ve been expecting such a thing to come out of lavi’s mouth. he tries to not let the hurt show through pale blue eyes and he forces a smile. it isn’t able to stay, however and he lowers his gaze, giving a soft and pained laugh.
“ yeah… just… yeah. sorry. ”

“I don’t mind, I was just curious since I still have some more documents to do about our most recent mission together. I just wanted to let you know that I’ve acknowledged your presence.” Lavi twisted himself towards Doug while explaining, only to flash a cheeky but lighthearted and pure grin. Upon turning back to his work, though, Lavi hummed in thought. “Anyway, what’s so great about my hair? It sometimes gets in the way when I don’t have my headband on me.”
doug finds himself returning the smile, ruffling lavi’s hair for a moment. he gives a soft chuckle before humming and simply plays with the other’s hair again. “ it’s just... i don’t know, it’s a nice shade of red. and it’s... it’s floofy! ” laughing, the finder scoots a bit closer to lavi now. for once, he isn’t so tense and he’s grinning brightly. he gathers up a bit of lavi’s hair in his hand before fluffing it, giggling the whole time. “ see? floof. ”
