Mdm! Jennette; the lovely princess
â I think we are more alike than we both liked to admitâ
â just because my cage may be bigger and more extravagant than yours, doesnât mean it still isnât a cage. Iâm also trappedâ
â I was happier before I became a princess, but I think even then I wasnât truly happyâ
â do you think I enjoy watching them torture her all in favor of me?No I donât, itâs cruel and uncomfortable. But I canât even do anything about it, and I hate itâ
â I only ever wanted a family, a real familyâ
Unlike dolorous Jennette who doesnât really have much of a role in the story, â my dear melancholyâ Jennette does. Though sheâs not really part of the main characters, sheâs an important side character.
Jennette is an observer, she observes everything around her but doesnât do anything about it. It isnât meant to paint her in a bad light, in fact sheâs actually one of the few only morally good characters in the story. She doesnât have the power to do anything
Despite being the crown princess, being beloved by all, and have an active influential faction behind her, including being âfavoredâ by Claude. A lot of Jennetteâs power is an illusion, she isnât the whole powerful princess everyone think she is, sheâs pretty powerless. Just like Athanasia, Jennette doesnât have a voice or control in her life to do anything.
Her and Athanasia are kind of in the same predicament, theyâre both trapped by the society that tells them what they should be. Both girls are abused by the same people, and are set against one another. Jennetteâs abuse comes from control
Jennette is forced to act perfect but also clueless from the abuse her sister is experiencing from her own faction. She witnesses all the abuse Athanasia endured, from the political attacks from Roger and Rosalia, the emotional abuse and neglect from Claude, and the eventual marriage abuse from Roynald. She sees and hears about it, and is horrified and disgusted by it. But she doesnât have the power to do anything about it. And she hates it
Jennette genuinely loves and respects her sister, she never wanted anything bad happen to her. But thanks to the actions of her own faction and Athanasiaâs understandable resentment towards her, they could never be close. When Athanasia finally died, she grieved and felt guilt for years. She felt like it was her fault for not trying to help, even though itâs not
Jennette may not be one of the main characters and is not shown a lot, but her presence is loud
Athansia being judged as someone difficult and weepy. When in all actuality, she was a vulnerable little girl worried about her prospects in her pending future after being disposed as heir and is left with nothing to protect her. Causing her to lash out as a shield to protect herself
When she finally accepts her new role as another princess to be sold for an alliance. she is denied to marry the only man she ever loved, who understands her more than anyone, and would have taken care of her the way she desired. And forced to marry a man who ultimately became her doom
Desperate to feel something in her unfulfilled life, she engages in activities that would have terrible consequences if caught, yet she never feels more alive and free. The only thing she ever wanted. But naively, she doesnât realize such freedom she desires, can never come to light. She was meant to caged
Her life was ruled by the strings of others, ridiculed by people who gave her no grace, and ultimately destroyed by the hands of men who saw nothing more than an object to control
She desired freedom, but was met with a blade in her belly
