how...would you feel...if u were on an already pretty strict livestream...and a person who has already caused some unrest...just comes up and says a slur...and u obviously can’t be too angry bc this is part of ur job...

matt was obviously trying to deal with the situation as best as he could and push it away bc holy shit there was one harry live stream where he could hardly say anything about what they were doing on set bc of rules how do you think it would be with this sort of thing happening???

Prompt: Todd's Christmas present is firing Dom

Dominos receives a letter in a golden envelop on Christmas morning. He smiles. He’s been pretty good this year, not walking into people FB and spoil Jace’s outfit for s3. The letter informs him that he’s been invited to a dinner party with Toad and all of his cast mates.

Dom(ass) gets dressed in the finest clothes he can find in such short notice and head to the party. There he find a long table, all of his cast mates are seated. Toad at the head.

“Dominoes” Toad greets him “take a seat please, we have a present for you”

Dom(ass) sits happily at the other end of the table. “What’s my present” he ask, a grand smile is plastered on his pasty white boy face.

“You’re fired” Toad announces.

“But why?”

“Because you’re a homophobic asshole that don’t take in to consideration the negative affect you have on your young fans and your cast mates, you say time and time again that you will change but it’s the same shit over and over again”

“But Jace is a main character, he’s Clary’s love. The star of the show”

Toad shakes his head, for the first time ever he’s going to give the fans what they want “this will be the Malec show now. Maia will be Clary’s love interest, we’re bring saphael back. Jace is going to mysteriously disappear and you can take Emmeh on your way out because she too doesn’t apologize for her shit”

Matt stands up and pop a bottle of champagne “immortal Alec how about that”

I’m tired of feeling bad when I think of Shadowhunters. That’s my fucking favorite show and one person will not ruin it for me. He won’t even ruin Jace.

This show has been my safe place. It has been a place where I’ve learned a lot. Because of this show, I started thinking about things I was too priviledged to even consider I had to learn about.

The show will continue to be that for me. All of that is because of the people I’ve met in the fandom, because of the characters, because of the story that is being told. They haven’t changed so neither will I.

do you think they'll fire Dom and recast Jace?

no, i don’t honestly think so. when it comes to this sort of thing, usually an apology and a condemnation and a “never again” is as far as it goes, unless it’s something very serious or egregious (like allegations of sexual assault, hate crime, or some other kind of gross misconduct). 

i’m of two minds on this as well – and i’m not making excuses for dom –  the thing is,  i genuinely, really love jace the character, and i do love dom’s performance as jace and i thought he brought something good to the character, although he has proven himself to be a shitty person beyond that, so it does colour the performance in a different light for me now. but still a recast would bother me as a fan of the show and a fan of his character, but it’s difficult because i obviously see why his conduct is harmful and hurtful towards the fans of the show. 

but as of right now i don’t genuinely think it’s going to happen unless dom’s misbehaviour escalates into something too serious to ignore or to not take severe and swift action on.

So disappointed. Why are people defending Dom for using the flipping f-word! Of course if you’re not offended that simply means everyone else is being over dramatic (note the sarcasm). Also the f-word is not just a word, that word has stories and history of painful memories dating back to who knows when, lives that were flipped-upside down because of that word. Words are more powerful than you think if it can cause people to end their own lives. I can’t even understand people saying ‘oh it was horrible but we all make mistakes’ I’m sorry mistakes has repercussions he should have some sort of suspension or I don’t know some sort of punishment even if it mean he’s sacked from the show altogether. I think the apology would have sufficed if Dom was 12 tbh because I really don’t believe he will change his behaviour due to the fact he said it as a joke as if he grew up saying those kind of things, that sort of casual homophobia is not erased overnight, he might be more careful tho with who he says it around. That apology was far from genuine, it was actually laughable, all it showed was that Dom was sorry he got caught. Shadowhunters is supposed to be a show that represents inclusivity and support for under-represented individuals including the LGBT community, how can a show continue this sentiment if one of the leads of the cast thinks using a homophobic slur is a joke. He is a fully grown adult who should face serious consequences for doing something so serious, if Shadowhunters/Freeform doesn’t react appropriately that is worrying. It’s worrying that brushing issues affecting minorities is actually rampant in our society and in the media especially when it’s our favourite stars caught in the middle of it. I think as human beings we need to be more sensitive with each other, even though we can’t fully understand one another, we shouldn’t discredit people’s feelings because the matter doesn’t affect/offend you personally.
