The Day I Became An Adult.
I feel like I grew up the day I learned solitude isn’t the answer.
You truly can’t work on yourself by yourself, we trick ourselves into thinking so for the sake of instilling an overly-grandiose sense of inflated independence.
You will always need help. You will always need someone there for you. It’s just a fact. I’ve learned that trying avoid the people who care about you for the sake of helping yourself never actually helps yourself.
My father has told me since I was a child, you never should go through something yourself. The battle may be in your head, but at the end of the day it’s the people who love you that will help and stand by you.
I stopped stubbornly hiding my issues from people. I opened up to the ones who love me. All of them. And it only made me better. Stronger. We’re all precious flowers and the only way to be watered and flourish is with the compassion and love of others.
We’re all human. We’re all victims of our own psyche. As much as we like to delude ourselves with this unsubstantiated notion of the “power of individual repair”, it isn’t how we’re fixed. It isn’t how we grow. It’s contradictory to the human condition.
Yes, we’re all different. Yes, no two people are wired the same. But the basic human desire for support, love and compassion is within us all. And even when we’re tortured by the very minds we trust to frame our sanity, it’s the ones who love us who will ultimately set us free.
Don’t be afraid to ever ask for help. We all need it.
