Marriages of the Kingdom #6 #PODCAST Identifying Distractions in Marriage. Listen NOW!
Use and be Used
I recently watched a documentary that explores the impact of social media on members of this generation. The title of the Documentary is “Generation Like” you can find the documentaryat this link: ( http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/generation-like/ )
Below, I give a brief summary of the main points covered in the documentary and then provide my own thoughts on this issue..
The documentary explains the amount of access users have and how this access allows users to connect and interact with the culture social media has created. The documentary exposes a sort of unfair relationship between the “hungry for social media” teens that are in search of their identity and corporations that own these social media platforms. The documentary poses questions to users of social media that they may never have thought about before. The main question is “do kids know they are being used” and “do they care if they are”... used how you might ask.... well, these companies feed off of (make money off of) data that their users create when using their sites. All of these so called data collections are agreed to by the consumers because they don’t take the time to read the privacy policies and they just agree to them without reading the fine print. The app may be free, but you are paying with your information. The title, “Generation Like”, comes from the creator, Rushkoff’s saying, “You are what you like”, meaning the more you like and what you like make it easier for social media companies to track and exploit.
SO- What do I think?
This is one hundred and ten percent a real issue. If you read the fine prints of any of the social media sites or apps you use, I bet you will be shocked to at least one of the policies you agreed to. Nothing in this world is free, and when you download that app, or make that account, you will pay, just not with money, but with your information and browsing data. Companies often have rights to sell this data... so think before you accept that user agreement or privacy policy agreement...read it..please.. because you might regret it if you don’t
Don't be fooled by the stupid
