Love Your Writer Week, Day Two: Donny’sboy

Another later-than-I-intended entry, but let’s continue loving authors all week long!  

Today’s subject?

Who?: donnys-boy!  The Shippiest Shipper to ever Ship a Ship, as well as one of the very best writers for Pon ‘fic you are ever going to find!  They’re also funny as all get-out, clever, and filled with lots of insight!

Why?:  Because if you want Pony Shipping done right, there’s no one better to turn to!  Whether it’s Angst and Longing or Fluff and Cuddles, a Donny’sboy Ship ‘Fic is a guaranteed way to Feels and Catharsis!

What?:

Some of my personal favorites of their body of work includes

* “Take The Long Way Home” (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic): A heart-wrenching look at three Ponies whose feelings keep intersecting with and falling away from each other.  Love Triangles can often be sloppy and lazy, but this story is elegant and very clever, always keeping its emotions clear and compelling and leading to a wonderful and well-earned conclusion.

* “Dear Twilight Sparkle” (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic): And here we have a tightly-concentrated look at one Pony’s feelings, explored with clever structure and keen insight.  The grasp of Character and dialogue on display here is super-strong, and the whole thing is flawlessly paced and exquisitely built to really give us a full feel for its viewpoint.  

* “Between Chaos and Creation” (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic): This one just sinks its hooks into you and never lets go.  Its clever use of continuity to create its backstory combines with exceptionally strong Characterization and an honest, sometimes harsh, sometimes warm, but always fair analysis of the differing dynamics at play in its central relationship, and again, the pacing and structure work together flawlessly to pull you in and make you care.

So this was actually written a few days ago for jllongwrites‘ Writing Prompt (this being the original writing blog of donnys-boy which you should absolutely check out, btw), but I couldn’t figure out how to submit it so I figured I’d just put it up here ‘n’ hope the blog notices now that I’ve mentioned it.  I hope all of you enjoy too!

Title: “Partners” by Gojira007

Prompt: ”Write an Action Scene with only dialogue”.

"Quix...are you OK...?" "For the most part, yes.  You?" "I'm good.  Sore at getting hit by something that big, but still good." "It's my fault, Ro.  I should have been more alert, it never would have been able to take us off-guard like that if-" "We've talked about the blame-myself-first thing, sweetie, 's'not good for you." "In this case, it is also appropriate." "Pretty strongly disagree, but that's gonna have to wait.  Ground's rumbling, means our 'friend' is coming back for another Go." "We should go for the shoulders first, I think." "'m pretty partial to the stomach; 's'a narrow target, but it looked like the only thing not covered in bone 'n' spikes." "There were openings on the shoulders, though, and it favors its hands for combat and movement.  Disabling the arms should be our priority, and the shoulders looked like the best way to do that." "Shoulders it is.  Hm, there, I can see it.  Looks pretty mad, too.  You ready?" "My sword drawn, my heart firmed.  In the name of Victory, I march forward." "Mm...." "Now I'm ready, love." "Good.  Now...!" "Careful, Ro, your sword's thick but even it can't stand more than a few strikes from those claws!" "Won't need to.  Gonna keep its focus on me, you try t'get on those shoulders." "Understood, but please watch those claws." "Promise." "Hrm...for something this big, it's very fast, and that tail keeps getting in my way!" "Unf!  Don't get-hup!-discouraged, sweetie.  Nothing here we-hnf!-can't handle." "Wait for it...wait for it...there!" "Quix?" "I'm on!  Try to...who-oa...!  Try to keep it steady!" "Any ideas on how?" "The ground over there...it looks soft!  And this thing swings wild when it gets mad...!" "Mm.  Understood.  Hang tight!" "I promise, love." "GOOD!" "That-whoa!-definitely got it mad...!" "And that got it stuck.  Go, Quix, go!" "Right!" "Good stab, sweetie, that's one arm down." "And here goes the oth-WHOA!" "QUIX!" "Mmph...I'm OK, just...winded from the fall.  Should've known...it'd get mad enough to free itself after that blow...." "Hold on, I'm coming!" "No!  We took out one arm, its movement is limited now.  Keep your distance, make it work harder, we'll wear it out faster that way!" "Hrm...understood." "Whoa!  Watch out, it's getting more aggressive with its tail!" "RAH!  Getting slippery up front too...." "It's trying to change up its tactics, make up for the lost arm!" "We need t'switch spaces, then.  Ready?" "Ready!" "GO!" "HIYA!" "Hrm...see what y'mean about the tail.  You OK on your end?" "So far.  Keep up the pressure, though, I think we're starting to tire it out!" "Heh...heh...startin' t'get a bit tired myself." "Do you need to fall back for a moment, love?  I think I may be able to take it down alone from here; that stomach idea from earlier is much more feasible now...."
