Lakeside Diner donuts in Stamford, CT
VooDoo Doughnuts in Portland, Oregon is AMAZING AND AWESOME AND EVERYTHING A LITLE KID COULD EVER DREAM OF! Their donuts are all about looking cool/a little messy and they taste delicious too! Their shop is fun and colorful just like their donuts and we highly recommend going if you’re ever in Portland. Featured above is a picture I took of a little freckled ginger boy (with permission from his parents) who was eating a donut LITERALLY the same size as his face. I think it perfectly captures the joy and perfection that a donut can bring to ones life.
HOLEY MOLEY, HOLEY COW, HOLEY CREAM!!!!!!!!!!! We were just staring for at least 10 minutes trying to gather our feelings when we walked into this place. Now, there are many options on their menu for you to choose from, but we knew what we were getting. The donut sandwich. There are easy step by step instructions painted on the wall when you walk in, but let me tell you it is not easy. You get your plain donut, but then need to choose between at least 20 ice cream flavors, three icing flavors, and 10 toppings. Tilly got 3 scoops of coffee mud pie ice cream and chocolate frosting. I got 3 scoops of moose track ice cream, chocolate frosting, oreos, chocolate sprinkles, and peanut butter drizzle. No regrets. And I also ate the entire thing (please see before and after picture above). In order to prepare to come to this shop, one must not eat anything at all before you try it. Or else you’re at a high risk of barfing up your self-made edible masterpiece. Sadly, we have no vomit stories to share with you all, but it seemed like a definite possibility to us after we finished eating. Our review is that one has not truly experienced all the secrets of the world or donut culture if you have not ventured to Holey Cream and eaten a donut sandwich for yourself.
On June 5th it was NATIONAL DONUT DAY!!!! THE DAY THE DONUT DEMOLISHERS LIIIIIVE FOR, OBVIOUSLY!!!! At this point, the Donut Demolishers have developed a very hardcore fan base and we didn’t want to let them down. So what did we do to celebrate?!? MADE OUR VERY OWN DONUTS FROM SCRATCH BY HAND! (and also posted 25 photos on our instagram account @donut_demolishers) It took us all day, but the end product was not only aesthetically pleasing but also edible!!! We had never felt more accomplished in our entire lives.
This is the website/recipe we used to make these in case you ever want to try to make your own, and we highly recommend it!

Speedy Donuts slogan “The Best in Town” most definitely rings true! Not only are their donuts delicious, but the feeling when you walk into this quaint diner is warm, welcoming, and inviting. It’s employees come in everyday at 3 or 4 in the morning and make enough donuts to fill and stuff their entire case on display. Their donuts are fresh every morning and attract many customers with their warm delectable taste. The flavors we decided to test out were Apple Cinnamon Cake, Chocolate chocolate, and Chocolate Sprinkled (mostly for the aesthetic...) The Apple Cinnamon can be summed up in one word: YUM! it has a crispy outside and soft inside which makes for a fun time in your mouth. The chocolate rainbow sprinkle was soft, doughy, and scrumptious. The chocolate chocolate’s frosting was melty, had a crunchy bottom and was SOO GOOD!!!! This local shop most certainly has a crew of dedicated regular customers that come through every morning and it’s not hard to figure out why they keep coming back. THESE DONUTS ARE 5 STARS 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟!!!!
Early Memorial Day morning, we ventured down to the local bakery “Crust and Crumb”. To be quite honest, we were still recuperating after the 27 donuts we had eaten the day before so we split a classic glazed donut and Boston Creme. They were delicious!!!! And we give this bakery 5 stars for sure 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟!!!!! If you ever have the chance, venture down to Long Beach Island, NJ because they have got their donut making skills down to a tee. Every local shop we went to had their own donut making machine that they used to make fresh warm donuts every morning!
This morning started out quite differently than our last two previous mornings. We are staying at my Aunt and Uncles beach house in LBI and my Uncle Mike became quite intrigued with our whole project. Last night, we were joking about going to Dunkin’ Donuts (the place America runs on) and just asking for one of every flavor donuts. Well, little did we know that Uncle Mike was actually serious. Him and my dad awoke this morning, traveled to the local Dunkin’ Donuts store, asked for one of every donut (which totaled to 27 donuts) they had from a cashier girl named Brittany, strapped the boxes down in the car, and delivered them to our kitchen counter. The whole fam gathered around and we sampled EVERY. SINGLE. FLAVOR. So we are currently writing this post sitting on the bathroom floor in front of the toilet, just in case. The reviews were pretty cohesive and similar so we will break them down by each flavor we tried...HERE WE GOOOOO:
Sour Cream Donut: crispy, light
French Cruller Donut: soft, airy, WE LOVED THIS ONE!, ultimately decided that this was our fave of all
Original Glazed Donut: not Krispy Kreme
Long plain log looking thing Donut: tastes like they just shaped their left over dough into a “donut”, gross, stale, my mom liked it...
Cinnamon Powder Donut: overwhelming powderness, like taking the cinnamon challenge
White Powder Donut: messy, needs a cup of coffee, poor cousin of the cinnamon powder donut
Lemon Filled turned Powder Boston Creme Donut?: initially thought it was LEMON FILLED, very disappointed when it wasn’t, mystery donut, Uncle Mike doesn’t like Boston creme
Vanilla Creme filled Donut: filling is light, heavier than whip cream but lighter than frosting, delicious cake, “party in my mouth”
Jelly Stick Donut: crunchy, Tilly “waved it off”, tastes like christmas or a christmas store (in a bad way), jelly injected from both sides but doesn’t go all the way through, weird artificial jelly too, can’t really tell what flavor it is!
Sugar Donut: more fine than regular sugar, dough is fresh, after taste is plain, needs more pizzaz!
Coconu Donutt: not enough coconut flavor, underwhelmed by coconutness
Chocolate Filled Donut: not enough filling, also offset and not in the middle of the donut, tastes like Betty Crocker frosting to Tilly, Mckay’s second fave flavor
Toasted Peanut turned Cinnamon Crunch Donut?: initially thought it had peanuts on the outside but was actually a sort of cinnamon crunch! firm, crunchy outside, would make a good cereal
Apple Filled Donut: barely any filling!! jammed into one corner of the donut, filling was good though, tastes like fall, cinnamony
“yummy” -Uncle Mike
Apple Filled/Vanilla Frosted/Toasted Cinnamon Crunch Donut: Tilly liked the frosting, alright, too much & too sweet, too busy
“It’s fun, but it’s like a high school party that gets too out of hand and you gotta park your truck in the middle of the driveway so no one can escape,” -Uncle Mike
Strawberry Sprinkle Donut: tasted more rasberry flavored?, everyone hated it, artificial, average, waxy, lacks genuine flavorness, tastes like bad candy from a carnival
Chocolate Sprinkle Donut: just chocolate frosted, nothing fantabulous, it was fine, “the practical donut
Vanilla Sprinkle Donut: artificial, skip it, once again has the Betty Crocker factor
Managers Special Donut: Tilly is sad because not even spread of filling, GUUUUUD!, whip cream & chocolate PARTAAAY!!
“It’s like a rave, like a night club” -Uncle Mike
****Note to self: Does the Managers Special change when they change managers?
19 donuts in: “I don’t know about you guys, but I’m reaching maximum density” -Uncle Mike
Boston Creme Donut: YUM!!!! another fave of Tilly and Mckay’s
“I’m actually sweating.” -Uncle Mike
Chocolate Frosted/Chocolate Glazed Donut: most chocolatey, high chocolateness content
Chocolate glazed Donut: moist, “MMM!”, nice chocolate balance
Plain Donut: when you want something more than a biscuit, needs to be paired with a drink, crumbly, dry, UNCLE MIKE SPIT IT OUT IN THE GARBAGE, it’s a waste, it’s boring, my mom liked it...
Sugar Jelly Filled Donut: dough was good, jelly is decent but artificial
Blueberry Donut: it’s actually an alternate donut when another flavor sells out, “like a muffin but more” -Uncle Mike, crumbly, liquid sugar shell, too sweet, fake, canned blueberries, ACTUALLY DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!
Powder Jelly Donut: artificial
Chocolate Frosted with Vanilla stripes Donut: good chocolate frosting, vanilla stripe is good marketing, makes it look more aerodynamic and fancy
We hope our reviews will help you pick out a super delicious donut next time you venture to Dunkin’ Donuts.

After getting scorched by the sun on the beach yesterday, we thought that donuts would be an excellent way to heal our pain. So we biked on down to Shore Good Donuts! It is the brainchild of the talented duo, Todd Hunt and Rich Platt. Todd and Rich are long time business partners and have been owners of a successful plumbing businesses for over ten years. They grew up in LBI and found that the one thing that was always missing was a specialty donut shop! We were immediately overwhelmed by all their delectable options the moment we walked in. We ultimately decided on their specialty Key Lime donut, Lemon Drop, Mape n’ Bake, and Inside out Boston. While we waited for our order, we watched as two girls filled an order for a box of 18 donuts! The donuts are made fresh to order right in front of your eyes. They would grab the still steaming hot donut out of the machine, dip them in a frosting, then a topping, and plop them in the box. Our review for this shop is 5 stars!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 THEY WERE DELICIOUS!!! especially the key lime! But this stop was particularly eye opening because we actually did not like the Mape n’ Bake one bit! (I think we’re officially becoming experts in our field!) Other than that flavor they were all scrumptious and we highly recommend you try them sometime!
