Parents and educators alike can rejoice at the introduction of Doodle 3D Transform. The app is designed to introduce 3D Design to the younger generation, making it easy to transform 2D drawings and images into 3D models, which can be brought to life on a 3D printer.
The app works by translating 2D into 3D - the first part lets you draw freehand, or pull an image into your design for it to be translated to 3D, letting you scale, curve and twist your design - editing it until you are happy with the results.
That said, this app doesn’t mean you can build intricate models mimicking the New York skyline at home. It’s still a way away from professional design software but does provide that stepping stone for beginners.
Even better, you don’t necessarily need a 3D printer to make these models either. You’re able to export your design so it can be printed by someone close by, at a 3D Hub. Or you can save your design and ask one of your friends to print it on their printer!
When Doodle3D Transform officially launches in February 2017, the pricing and subscription model are expected to go through a few small changes but once you’re in, you’re a Doodle3D Transformer for life. The app’s pricing begins at £17.
Doodle3D Transform is currently under a KickStarter campaign, giving a select number of users early access to the app before the official launch next year. It will be available on iOS, Android, Linux, OSX, Windows, and more.
