Komamiki – “Taking care of an animal”

“L-Let’smake sure the water is not too h-hot and neither too cold for him,” Mikan warnedand checked the water temperature before Nagito put the muddy puppy into the bathtub, they had a lot of work to do with the poor tiny dog they hadfound on the street, it was so full of dirt that its fur was barely visible.

Mikan waskind of preoccupied at first but it seemed that Nagito was really happy whilecleaning the little animal and his confidence made her less nervous about thesituation, though when they were about to finish the work and it became clearer what kind of dog lay beneath the layer ofmud, the only clear thing was that it wasn’t a dog at all, in the end it was… “a-a f-fox?”

The babyfox swung its tail happily while Nagito was holding it in his arms, it actually acted like a dog at first sight so Mikan almoststarted crying by the sudden revelation, but then Nagito looked at her andshrugged as he said “I suppose it’s just my luck,” and Mikan couldn’t helpchuckling sheepishly along with him, forgetting all her nervousness in a split of a second.

“C’mon,make a wish,” Fuyuhiko told her while she was still startled by the fact therewas a cake in front of her, not to mention that she was still recovering afterwaking up from the program and celebrating her birthday in a hospital room wassomething completely unexpected.

Afterblinking a few times, still not believing such precious gift from that person soimportant for her, Peko closed her eyes and blew out the candles on the cakefeeling she was probably making a mistake, since it was her first timedoing something like that.

Then shelooked up to meet Fuyuhiko’s gaze, thinking that there was no need to say whatshe wished for, because it wasn’t as if she would have wished for more than what shealready had, so she simply smiled and muttered a little but strong “thank you”before they hugged each other and tears of joy started blurring their vision.
