Doodle of my boy Kinfee who got the most outdated profile/ref ever... He’s not a babby anymore. Also Doupes the asshole ghost who just won’t stop bothering him about killing her ex moirail but y’know, it be like that...

About Doupes.

Doupes lusus was a Cuckoo, a kind of bird who is a bit of a parasite breed... They won’t raise their own young, but lay their eggs in other birds nests. Upon hatching, the cuckoo usually even push out its adopted siblings from the nest.

Now, while not this exactly happened to Doupes... She did not have her lusus around much, if at all, and when around not a very good custodian. That sort of bird is simply not made to care for kids. And in a way the lusus is part guilty for Doupes becoming the one she was.

As a kid, she craved a lot for attention, and would seek it out from other trolls and occasionally their lusi when. She would shift between wanting to be in on everything (preferably in the center of attention) to going off on her own and be silent and very hard to connect to... Generally though, she’d always be a lot of fun to hang out with. She had a good sense of humor and would make whoever she was talking to feel like the best person in existence a lot of the time.

... She was... A bit more innocent in her younger years, definitely. But somehow, she just couldn’t make herself feel happy or feel good about herself. Something she’d later on start to take out on others (read: Placio, and then Murphy). She was pulled to those who were sweet and kind, who had a bad self esteem and wouldn’t speak up too much for themselves. She got a kick out of thinking she could somehow “fix” them and they’d be “perfect” and with her forever... And then when it didn’t work the way she wanted she got frustrated.

She got quite obsessed with Murphy, he was her “favorite”... By the end of her moirail allegiance with Placio, she begun to deal a whole lot of attention his way. Something she on and off had done before, but it now grew more persistent - until she broke it off with Placio suddenly for him (but of course she made things look like nothing was wrong)... It was a messy web of manipulation, guilt tripping and gas lighting. Honestly. She played people like a pianist plays the piano, and she did it well.

Doupes found it easy to read other trolls... Their weaknesses. Strengths. She could usually figure out their buttons and how to make them the happiest or the saddest... But she was always very egocentric. While she would do a lot of good things and actually show her friends a lot of support too (only her moirails ever fared bad because of her). She would go out of her way for others so many times, do seemingly everything for them be so sweet and kind and supportive...

But in the core it was all selfish. Whether it was for attention or for some fix idea she had that if she did X and X people would love her more. And if they loved her then she would be able to feel good about herself too. If she could “fix” others then she too would be fixed and fine and everything would be perfect...

Lowkey, she hated everyone on and off. Because nobody could actually live up to the perfect world in her mind. They couldn’t give her what she needed. What she wanted.

She was a very complicated person...

Nobody would see any of this though. On the outside she was really so very supportive and friendly. She liked to be in the center when in groups, but would make anyone she hanged out with alone feel like they were the best in the world. She was very good at that... It’s not like she didn’t care at all either about her moirails or friends... She loved them too, like everyone she cried and was genuinely sad when Qualus died, but that doesn’t mean she was any less bad...

She did good things. But she did the good things for the wrong reasons. And she always kept blaming everything on everyone else and her surroundings, choosing to be blind to her own faults, or not understanding she did anything wrong. Of course she didn’t see herself as evil... Who ever does? 

Who knows... Maybe if she had gotten the right help early on in life, she’d turn out different and not the way she did. But that is nobody’s fault.

And that is my rundown of who Doupes, the ex-rail of Murphy (and before him, Placio), and the ghost currently possessing Kinfee, are. 

A psychologically abusive person who was very manipulative towards her moirails, but whom also was loved by everyone for the version of herself she normally would show. A tragic but still very bad person, and definitely the villain in this story.
