Houston, we may have a problem.
So I've been trying to compile a new export of Downcast for the past 3 days.
That's right, three days.
What keeps happening is the compile dies, or rather FCP dies, very suddenly after the 60% or so mark. I'm assuming at this point it's an issue with my hardware and not the file itself. The project file is under 115mb (and I've compiled it at 120mb), there's plenty of swap space (10gb of it when I've done this at 3gb before), and so forth.
The only thing recently is my laptop's battery finally died. And from what I've heard, there's issues with RAM access after that point, when the laptop battery hits below 10%.
Thankfully, we have other Mac systems in the house, so I'll be using another Macbook Pro which is a year younger. Fingers crossed. :|
Work on the score begins again today!
I'm groggy as hell from still having flu (wehhhh :C ), but, we're gonna do what we can. Glad to have Ostin back, he seems to have a bit more pep right now. Means we're ready to jump back into it! \o/ Very excited.
So, Downcast progress shall be coming sooooon. 8D
Oh hey, you guys know that when this is all done/scored you're getting a free viewing on Livestream, right? :)
REALLY glad I didn't livestream me getting back to the Downcast FX. You would be basically staring at a screen while I'm trying to figure out how shit works. It'd be like watching Super Mario Sunshine episodes of Game Grumps except less colorful and no Danny Avidan. :|
Fucking hell, why is it so hard to just tell the thing HEY TRACK THIS PLANE, OK GOOD, NOW MATCH THESE OBJECTS TO THIS SURFACE. >_<
So this is the first pass at a new Downcast teaser.
I'm probably going to cut the roles of the supporting/cameo characters out, montage more footage, move the roles of the main characters to the end, and... well, find some better way to cap it.
It's okay. But I need to work on it more.
Closing FCP to open AE.
We're almost there.
Downcast picturelock is imminent.
Probably in the next 24 hours. It's very exciting to be this close, realizing as I'm going through it that it's inching ever closer to a finish line.
It's also amusing that I'm very picky about making sure the color correction between shoot days is JUST right. We made the mistake of shooting with custom white balances for every single shoot. GAH, such a bad idea. >_> (in some cases it was necessary, but not in all of them) But, the chess game looks MUCH better now and there's even a few spots post-gunshot in the Frank/Morgan confrontation that I cleaned up. Didn't realize it was such a problem but once you're seriously looking...
But anyway. Got some new FX shots to do also, but that's okay. The opening shoot-out's gonna be a little more intense now, which is always good. I also brought the "pause" back after the guest's gunplay.
Oo, I should post Henri's storyboards some time...
I apologize for my earlier insanity, by the way. I'm going through some stuff right now and I've got some physical problems making matters far worse. >_>
No matter what I do in the edit itself, Downcast never seems to end up less or more than 111 minutes. It's driving me nuts. I'll have to bloat the end credits. :|
