Angel is a liar. And it's not even his fault, as a character. It's the writers' fault. Because they would just write whatever the fuck they wanted to see on screen for the next episode without double-checking if their decision was supported by previous text or consistent with the character.
"I never fed off another human since the day I got my soul...except those other times I definitely fed off humans, including killing a bunch to make my girlfriend take me back." This isn't even the only example. "I spent 100 years eating rats." No, dude. There's a whole show full of you doing other shit after you got your soul that was 100% not rat-eating penance. Some of it is actually pretty damn awful, too. And the more he developed, the more his most basic established lore is contradicted, the more it makes him a liar.
Like I said, it's not his fault he's a liar. They didn't know at the time. But they also didn't check.
So the canonical repercussions are Angel's a fucking liar.
