Okay, I just watched the English part of the live that DPR IAN, aka Christian Yu, made earlier (he does the rest in Korean, I presume to communicate the same things).
He clearly needs a break. It's unfortunate timing, but it is what it is. He's fairly open about what he's going through (for what he's able to be—scrapping an upcoming album and dealing with numerous mental and neurodivergent conditions are difficult subjects to be open about). The way of the music industry clashes with a lot of some of his personal ideals, and he won't put up with it anymore. After finishing the last few stops on his tour, it'll be time for an indefinite hiatus. There's hope to release the album digitally and keep in touch with fans as best he can.
I can only say I'm incredibly proud of him. Nothing but respect for this move, regardless of the timing. This change is so fucking hard, but I truly do hope it'll be for the best. I, personally, will be fine if he eventually fades into obscurity if it means he manages to find happiness. He's given me enough and owes no one. If he does come back to making music and even performing, that would be neat, too. As someone who literally just moved away from a life I wasn't handling well and hoping to start over, I understand at least that minor detail of how he's feeling. Actually, it might be that tiny empathetic connection that has me emotional about this more than anything. I'm not the only person I know going through varying stages of this process, either.
Christian deserves space, he deserves respect, time, understanding, and mostly he deserves to know that he is allowed to do this right now. Nobody should be pushed past so many limits for the sake of their fanbase or their career, or expectations of an unpromised future. He's said he doesn't care if people theorize about his mental conditions and the effect they have on everything, and I certainly can't stop anyone either. I would simply advise caution and ask people to be respectful toward him and those who have those experiences or similar. Whatever healing he does or doesn't seek is for him to choose and have that choice be respected.
I encourage anyone to actually watch the video if you can. For now, I simply wish to give his warm soup and tuck him into bed (he has a cold) and send him flowers and a note wishing him the best and saying thanks for everything so far.
