my japanese copy of rad arrived, so i scanned the manual and uploaded it on the internet archive here!
it's mostly the same as the US manual, which has already been uploaded here, but there are a few differences I thought were interesting. obviously the japanese manual is in colour while the us one is greyscale, but the japanese version also includes some more concept art in the background of the character bios that was removed in the us version for some reason, as well as a few interesting localization choices i noticed.
interestingly, some characters' names were changed for the English localization! Masaru was originally named Syo, and Keiko Konan was originally named Kaoruko Kinan. I noticed Nanao is also spelled "Nanaho" here, but I think that may just be a romanisation thing (?).
A couple characters' ages were also changed - the US manual says Ellen is 18, but the Japanese manual says she's 17. The Japanese manual says Dr. Wiltz is 35, but the US manual aged him up to 36 for some reason. Unclear if these were intentional changes or typos that just never got caught - possibly they bumped up Ellen's age to make the "stacked" line slightly less creepy (or maybe to make it more believable that she's working in active disaster relief??), but Wiltz's age change seems entirely arbitrary.
I don't speak enough Japanese to point out any changes in the main text, so moving on.
there's concept art of little nanao on this page that was replaced with vavel in the english manual. baby erasure
