When the Crow Cries - A Gojira (1954) AU

Summary:

Dr. Daisuke Serizawa was not meant to live, dragged up from the depths by his old friend in an act of what felt to him like cruel compassion, as bubbles from the weapon of his creation filed out beneath.

Shortly after Dr. Serizawa’s near-sacrifice in 1954, a young zoologist in training arrives at the door of Prof. Kyōhei Yamane, asking to become his mentee.

She, too, was not meant to live.

Grief cannot be outrun. It must be confronted. But perhaps with company, it isn’t that bad.

As Tokyo is once again rebuilding, maybe now the souls of those affected by the shadow of war and Godzilla can do so as well.

Or: Ogata saves Serizawa’s life, and the doctor can’t stay emotionally stuck forever. This is his (and the Yamane family’s, and oh, the new girl’s too) story.
