Can I request numbers 20 & 4 with Jooheon?
4. “Can I kiss you?”20. “I’ll help you study.”
When I saw Jooheon struggling to finish one calculus worksheet I knew I would be a crappy best friend for not helping. So I told him I’d be at his house later tonight.
“Not that I’m not excited but why are you coming over?”
“I’ll help you study. I know you have a test on Friday and you’re not getting anywhere,” I told him, looking at his worksheet to see only the first three problems done. The shy eye smile he gave me was enough to show his appreciation.
We sat at his dining room table that night, hell bent over worksheets as I explained formulas to him. His dad was still at work and his mom was picking up food. I had noticed that Jooheon wasn’t giving the work his full attention. I would glance up at him to see if he was understanding and his eyes would immediately fall from my face to the paper. I wondered if I was distracting him somehow. Was there something on my face? I ignored it until I glanced up again and this time he didn’t look away. He stared back at me, his eyes full of an emotion I had never seen in them before.
“________, can I kiss you?”
My heart dropped to my stomach with his words. I found myself nodding before realizing what exactly was happening. He hesitantly leaned forward, giving me time to back out if I wanted to. But I didn’t, I closed my eyes and let our lips collide. His lips were softer and gentler than I expected.When he pulled away I couldn’t help but touch my lips in surprise. What was happening? Did this mean we weren’t best friends anymore?
