So overall Dragon Con was a success!
That evening, one of my friends had to leave for a couple hours, so we went back, I got a shower and a nap, changed into my casual Thor outfit, and went back at night. That was very fun just people watching from the Pulse Loft. I had glow stuff with me and accidentally dropped an entire tube worth of glow bracelets three levels down onto someone's shoulder. Then I spotted people grabbing them up off the floor. Hopefully they enjoyed them and I learned not to open things over the edge. I drove us there that night instead of taking marta or walking so late, and found decent though pricy parking, but when we were leaving someone tried to con us saying that I backed into his car. I had three other people in the car with me. My back window is literally the roof of my trunk and only about 10 inches from my back bumper. I"ve also had someone rear-end me at like 1 mph at a red light and that shook me in my seat. I most definitely did not hit that car. We also did not see anyone in the car coming up, and my friend says it looked like the guy came from the bushes in front of the car next to the lot. I just drove away. I have a spotless driving record, we maybe had $25 cash between us, and I did not want to get shot by a con artist at 2am in Atlanta.
Once again we slept in on Sunday and headed to the con around 2. Went to the Geek Girls Run panel and met and chatted with justbetsycostumes. While we were talking someone recognized me and asked for a photo, which was awesome because recognizing costumes from books is much more challenging than from a show, comic, game, or other visual medium. After that I wandered around some more, went to a leather working panel, witnessed the glass dropping incident, then went to the masquerade. I once again failed to get any photos of myself in costume, but once it cools enough that I can go out in it without basically taking a sweat shower, I'll go get photos at a nice nearby park. My friend had gone back to his place with a headache earlier, so he drove to pick me up rather than me taking marta back alone, which I appreciate. When we got back, since I hadn't had dinner, we ordered Papa Johns and then I collapsed to sleep, to tired to even shower. I'd meant to wake up around 10ish, but instead slept until 1. Luckily all my stuff was already packed, so I left shortly later and got home around 3:30. Since then I've just been relaxing, which is lovely.
I definitely want to go back next year and to other cons to the best of my ability. It's fun going in costume, and really fun having people get excited about your costume and seeing a favorite character, which makes me want to do more recognizable things in the future and save the more obscure/original things for just fun personal projects/photos/"hey look what I can do" purposes. I will also take more changes of clothes in the future and plan out cooler costumes for day wear to try to keep the sweating down. If I didn't sweat buckets, I probably would have been fine in what I wore this year, but lessons learned. Luckily I carried/drank plenty of water.
