Dark Legacies Remastered - Reader Insert Version Masterlist
Six years after Galbatorix's fall, Eragon's Rider Academy sits on a now fully restored Vroengard - but you and your black female dragon, Gormlaith, didn't arrive there like most other students. While many others arrived with brand new hatchlings and undeveloped magical talents, you and your dragon endured six months of strife as you hid from masked vigilantes who seem to want you dead and Gormlaith as their property for unknown reasons. As they terrorize all of Alagaesia hunting for you, with Gormlaith's ties to an evil that once plagued the land before, you're given a wide berth by elves, staff, and students alike until you meet someone who has also paid dearly for someone else's sins. Will your and Murtagh's forming friendship prove a boon or a an anchor that only drags each other further into the depths in the years to come?
This is a series that takes place about six years after the events of Inheritance (8007 AC - you can find the official Inheriwiki timeline/yearly system here). They’ll be listed in chronological order below with a timekeeping system at the top of each fic/time jump.
This is a remastered version of the original DL series I had started and discontinued because originally, I didn't really have a grand plan for this series then ended up developing one and the first few chapters didn't hit like I wanted them to in light of the new outline for the fic. So I'm "remastering"/rewriting it from the beginning here.
PSA: Gormlaith is an Irish name (meaning “illustrious princess”) pronounced GORM-lah.
I've had this stored away a very long time in a dark corner where I completely forgot about it
So I'm finally going to post the last chapter I wrote for it and then this fic is up for adoption :3
Hope you enjoy this last chapter from me
Part One
Part Two
It wasn't until Kyōjurō was turning the corner to his home did he realise that you’d called him ‘Mister Loud Restaurant Man’. which had him grinning for a delectable little moment before the realisation that you didn't know his name came crashing down. That realisation was soon brutally crushed as another realisation came crashing down.
Kyōjurō didn’t know your name either. Kyōjurō had been walking on autopilot, lost oh so deep in the ocean of thoughts about the whole ordeal that didn't even realise he’d made it home, to his room in fact. He stood silently at his door, bewildered at how lost in his thoughts he’d become.
Putting on his sleepwear Kyōjurō replayed the scene in his head mulling over what he could’ve done differently. He lay down in his futon, his thoughts still swirling, however Kyōjurō was not one to linger on what ifs, so he decided to rectify his mistake with a deceptively simple idea. Exchanging names.
You had been wearing a delicate grin amongst your blooming cheeks with your head in the clouds–both literally and figuratively–since your little woodland encounter. Of course, your small band of friends had quickly noticed the change in behaviour.
“You know, for someone that just got knocked out of the sky, you seem awfully…giddy,” Arthur spoke, Your friends hummed in agreement before trying to pry answers from your stammering lips, all the while your dragon giggled in glee knowing the reason you were acting so unusual. It didn't take long for the rest of your team to start prying for details, each of them blasting you with question after question. At this rate they'd end up blasting you out of the sky with their constant stream of inquiries. As if you needed to be rapidly plummeting back to earth again today.
After the horrendous ride back you’d remained sat on your bed carefully tending to your dragon’s wounds. Being sure to make up a better splint for a more effective recovery. The night's events played ever looping in your mind, thoughts flooding your brain and spilling out your mouth. Your dragon half-heartedly listens to your worries. Of course it wasn't that the beast didn't care, they certainly did, It's just that you seemed a bit… hysterical about the topic at hand. Raving about how strange demons were and how stunningly heroic your rescuer had been. Your thoughts were spinning and you went with them spilling an endless sea from the depths of your mind out through your mouth. 'What's up with demons? Could they be connected to the hunter activity in the area? What about this Demon Slayer Corps? Could they help if the demons and hunters are connected? Would they? And then there was your oh so handsome saviour tonight… 'The way he swung his sword…' or 'how the brilliant flames seemed to make him appear ethereal…'
Your dragon rolled their eyes, oh boy were you hooked.
---
The next time you meet it was certainly not at a restaurant. Although once upon a time it could've been. Kyōjurō has been sent to an old abandoned mansion near the coast that'd supposedly been cursed. People would see bright flashes from the far off abode combined with the most horrible screams and screeches. The corps had initially sent in a few teams to investigate but none had reported back. Now the corps was sending in the Flame Hashira.
You on the other hand were following up on hunter attacks with the rest of your team. You'd managed to narrow down possible hunter bases to 3 main points on the coast.
Over the next week the team would investigate each location to see if their suspicions were true.
Dark Legacies Masterlist (Reader Insert Version) (ORPHANED)
NOTE: I don't want to get rid of this, but please note that this series has a new remastered version started over from the beginning that can be found here.
You and your black female dragon, Gormlaith, didn't arrive at Eragon's Rider Academy on Vroengard like most other students. While many others arrived as children or teenagers with a brand new hatchling, you and your dragon endured many months of strife and turmoil to claim your place as pupils - which makes the two of you much older than most there. With Gormlaith's ties to an evil that once plagued the land, you're given a wide berth by elves and students alike until you meet someone who has also paid for his father's and former tyrant's mistakes. Will your forming friendship prove a boon or a target on your back in the years to come?
This is a series of one shots and drabbles that all take place in the same universe, about six year after the events of Inheritance. They’ll be listed in chronological order below, and some elements will be taken from other Murtagh x reader one shots of mine. There is a timekeeping system at the top of each fic/page break with "Ground Zero/Year 0" being the year of Gormlaith's birth, again about six years after the events of Inheritance, and going up from there.
PSA: Gormlaith is an Irish name (meaning “illustrious princess”) pronounced GORM-lah.
You can find the companion OC version here!

hi idk how to use Tumblr lol. So originally this was just gonna be a one-shot but I got a bit stuck and decided to release it as a series, it'll probably have very slow updates tho please be warned. yes, that title is a reference to House Targaryen.
I have tried to keep both dragon and rider vague to allow the reader to picture their dragon and their rider
Through Fire & Blood I
Rengoku Kyōjurō x DragonRider!MC
The first time Kyōjurō Rengoku see’s you it's from afar. In fact, he didn't even see you, Just a majestic dragon with a mysterious rider. The gusts of wind graced his form even when he was standing 1000 meters away, all because you and your dragon were flying amongst the heavens. Truly a sight to behold. This world was no stranger to the creatures but to see the winged beasts here in the east was a rarer sight with most of the eastern dragons remaining reclusive, and yet here you were! A dragon rider! Such a concept here was unheard of! Such creatures were either revered or hunted. Hunted and feared more like. Perhaps you were here to end that practice. Although, how you could accomplish such a feat on your own, he hadn't the faintest clue. Anyhow as fascinating of a thought it was, the end of the dragon war, Kyōjurō had a war of his own to fight.
That night the idea of dragons still plagued Kyōjurō’s mind. As he wandered his usual patrol route he thought of what it'd be like to patrol from the skies on the back of a dragon. When he swung his sword he thought of the bright and brilliant flames of dragon fire. After Kyōjurō had finished his nightly patrol, when he lay comfortably in his futon, he thought of the stories his mother had often told him before bed. She had always been well-versed in other cultures.
The story of how the Hooligan tribe of Berk learned to live peacefully with the dragons was always one of Kyōjurō’s favourites. A young boy wanted to become a dragonslayer so he could prove to his father that he was worthy of being a Viking. It wasn't dissimilar to Kyōjurō’s own desires to prove himself to his family, namely his father that he was worthy of them. one night the boy snuck out during an attack on the village and managed to shoot down a dragon that was the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself. When the boy travelled into the woods the next day to finish what he started he found himself incapable and instead freed the beast. In the following weeks, the boy and the dragon became friends and set in motion the events that would lead to peace with the dragons. While the rest of the story didn't relate to Kyōjurō, he couldn't deny the idea of putting an end to a war that’d been going on for centuries certainly did sound appealing, especially with his family’s pivotal role in the Demon Slayer Corps being that of Hashira. Recounting the events of such a near and dear tale had Kyōjurō’s eyes going heavy as the distant memory of his mother’s embrace lulled him to sleep.
The second time Kyōjurō Rengoku see’s you he’s eating lunch. A trio of riders with you at the head saunter in with a certain swagger to your step and dragons at your heels, all before one of the restaurant staff appears to shoo the animals out “No animals inside! Out with those beasts!” She cried. Kyōjurō watched from behind the towering stacks of empty dishes as your group sent their dragons outside and proceeded to order their party’s food.
Soon after the trio of riders leave the restaurant to take their seats outside Kyōjurō resumes his meal, a hearty umai with every bite. It seems however, Kyōjurō’s jubilant exclamations of ‘delicious’ had caught the eye–well ear, rather–of a certain member of the gang of riders.
while the heated gaze of others wasn’t an uncommon occurrence for him, this time was different. He could sense the unwavering gaze of unknown eyes searing into his temple with such an intensity that it gave him pause to his meal to observe whoever could watch him with such fierceness. His search was over as soon as his gaze met yours. Your eyes had locked for no more than a moment before you quickly set your sights back on your meal, your friends chatting away as if nothing had happened. Did anything happen? Surely it must’ve, judging by the way your eyes flickered between him and your food or the subtle warmth on your cheeks or even the muted flush of his own cheeks.
Kyōjurō had seemed to shine even brighter with his head even higher in the clouds than usual after that interaction, a giddy grin had possessed his mouth, a pep in his step and an extra seasoning of passion in his booming voice. Shinazugawa had accused him of being demon-possessed due to the change whereas Uzui thought he’d finally gotten laid. He hadn’t. All that had happened was that he had another human being looking–staring–at him. It wasn't uncommon for people to look at him, he was a rather eccentric individual after all. Why was this time so different? Was it the dragon that sat so comfortably by your side? The unique attire that hugged your curves so well? Or just your eyes that seemed to glimmer with the essence of the stars above? Definitely the dragon. It had to be the glorious creature at your side, it was a dragon, after all, such sights are truly ones to behold. There was no other explanation for such a change in his behaviour. At least not to Kyōjurō
Mitsuri had–of course–also noticed her friend’s change in attitude. She watched Kyōjurō’s expression change with each thought that cycled through his head, clearly trying to rationalize why there was a change in his demeanour. ‘Love obviously.’ Mitsuri thought to herself, to her the answer couldn't be more obvious. Kyōjurō wouldn’t admit it of course. Not enough time for relationships. Untrue. There was always time for love, you just have to allow it. Oh, Mitsuri was so keeping an eye on Kyōjurō from now on, she has to see how this plays out, and maybe give her friend a little nudge–or a violent shove–should he need it.
The third time Kyōjurō Rengoku sees you, you and your dragon were looming just above the treeline locked in combat with some ugly thing before spiralling down into the trees with a sky-piercing roar. Before he knows he’s running–sprinting–to where he saw you go down. He can tell he’s close when the trees are snapped and the once grassy ground beneath his feet had been destroyed. When he finds you two you’re covered in mud and scratches, your dragon faring no better in fact they seemed to be in worse condition. You’re both disorientated and vulnerable when the thing comes crawling out from the shadows at your back. Twigs embedded in its flesh, dirt stuck to its unnaturally thick hind legs. Reaching to pull the sticks implanted in its flesh out with abnormally long arms. The hollows left behind regenerating with fervour. ‘A demon’ Kyōjurō thought.
“Fuefuefue I certainly am lucky tonight! Such delectable meals have come running to me! Or flying rather… Ooh, I cannot wait to taste that beast's flesh. Gah and the rider! What a delicious little thing! And to top it all off a demon slayer! Ohoho it’ll be a glorious feast!” The demon spoke with a screeching voice. How disgusting. This infernal demon had dared to bring such glorious beings to the ground. Dared to think about laying its awful fangs into majestic flesh. Disgusting. As the demon began to crawl towards your prone form it was as if time slowed down for Kyōjurō the words his mother told him ringing in his ears. The strong must protect the weak. Whilst your senses came returning to you the fear of the creature stalking towards you came with it, weakly backing yourself into your injured dragon’s side, weak whimpers of their name leaving your lips. Panicked eyes catch the demons raised claws before,
The smell of simmering ash floods your nose as the demon lay headless in the dirt. When you’d recovered from the shock you instantly turned to your dearest friend. Kyōjurō watched you gently examine your dragon for injuries. The way you gently prodded for injuries reminded Kyōjurō of when Shinobu would tend to his wounds after a battle, although she’d often scold him for getting injured in the first place. You’d been prodding at the beast before getting up and scavenging broken branches and fallen vines. ‘How odd’ Kyōjurō’s thoughts continued until your voice reached his ears, even with your exhausted tone all Kyōjurō could hear was beauty. “Thank you… for saving us. We didn’t exactly expect the foul thing to come back after being absolutely destroyed.” you had laughed. “Of course! It was no trouble!” It had taken Kyōjurō a moment to respond. He didn't think you would say anything, you’d seemed too preoccupied…tying sticks together… why were you tying together? Kyōjurō decided to just ask instead of standing there awkwardly…with your dragon glancing between him and yourself.
“Forgive me for asking but, what are you doing?” Kyōjurō coughed out between nerves.
“Ah, my friend’s leg is sprained, it should heal in no more than a week but with a brace-” you held up the primitive-looking brace with a proud grin. “It should heal in a couple of days.”
Kyōjurō watched as you tied the brace to your dragon’s leg. When you tried to help the beast stand and he saw you falter as the dragon’s weight was bearing down on you Kyōjurō had never moved faster in his life all just so he could lighten your load. Never in his life did expect to see a dragon, let alone touch one. The feeling of its scales was different from any lizard, they were too sacred to be that of an ordinary lizard. When Kyōjurō glanced over to see if you were faring better his breath caught in his throat. Your dragon was not the only sacred creature here.
The whole ordeal had only lasted no more than five seconds, that was all the time it took to get the great beast standing after all, but for Kyōjurō it had felt like five minutes. So much had happened and yet so little all in such a short period of time. Kyōjurō stood stunned as you climbed upon your majestic beast. There were other beasts circling the skies above but they did not matter to him. “Thank you again for your help..” you’d told him with a hint of hesitancy. Was there something else you wanted to say? “I hope we see you again sometime…although I think I'd prefer the restaurant over a crash site.” You’d pushed out with a laugh to ease the air. Kyōjurō blinked. Before responding with a hearty laugh.
“I would be grateful to see you again and your dragon again! Although I must agree, a restaurant would be far better than here!”
A mirthful chuckle left your lips.
“Well, then restaurant it is!” You’d said with a smile before a light roar sounded through the air from one of the dragons above that Kyōjurō had neglected to notice. He was too busy being enthralled by your presence. Your dragon sounded back with a light tone.
“Well, it seems we must take our leave-” Your eyes remained on the ground at Kyōjurō’s feet, a bashful grin etching your features amongst the subtle blush. “Until next time Mister Loud Restaurant Man!” You’d shouted over the gusts of wind caused by your takeoff. “Goodbye Mysterious Dragon Rider!” He’d shouted back.
