odd tension (chie/miYako)
Something was wrong in the halls of Toshi Defense. Our usual wonderful go-getter of a lieutenant was nowhere to be seen, instead replaced with this harried, frustrated young woman, and no one could tell you why. Not even her, though she had an inkling of what it was.
That new superintendent... There wasn't anything wrong with Miyako Hotsuin. She seemed professional and capable, so she was well-suited for the job. Everyone else seemed to love her, too-- and Chie could see why, really. But there was something that bothered her every time they passed in the hall, or her name came up in a discussion... and it was probably around the millionth yeah, she's great when she realized why.
No way around it. She just missed her old boss.
Where did you go, Chief Art? No returned calls, no messages whatsoever. Gone without a trace-- well, Chie couldn't trace him, at any rate. Was he alright? Maybe he was... nope. Nope. There was a reason for this. There had to be.

Though she knew it would be best to accept what was happening, she still felt a strange loyalty to Art. She had grown under him, received his praise and criticisms, and to suddenly have him replaced with a completely new person was a little much. She wouldn't be calling Miyako-san 'Chief' any time soon, that was for sure. And what was this about her moving straight to Superintendent? Chie hadn't really been shooting for the job herself (at least not as long as Art had occupied it), but it was still a bit of a blow for this new girl to jump straight there after just arriving, Hotsuin blood or not. (Wait, Art did that, too? I'm sure he was... overly-qualified...)
But there was no denying that Miyako Hotsuin was the new superintendent of Toshi City's Defense Force and Chie's new direct superior, and so she knew she just had to get past herself. Asking for Art to come back was more and more becoming a childish wish. So, with a sigh (no doubt a surprising sound to anyone nearby), Chie lifted herself from her seat in the break room and made her way to the office next to hers.
The office that used to be Art's...
