I’m so excited to share #schoolism ‘s #artistworkout series. Just like athletes, artists need to workout to keep up their skills. These workout series will help you stay committed, when you draw or paint along with a professional artist. @stephensilver7 ‘s course is available now. Soon more will follow, by @digitalbobert , @nathanfowkesart #iainmccaigart and a daily painting workout series by yours truly. #art #workout #studying #drawingexercises #paintingexercises https://www.instagram.com/p/B_Nu8lAgjAU/?igshid=16sdounuwe1nj

Today I discovered an online figure drawing database that’s free!! These drawings range from 30 second to 15 min studies. The site allows you to choose a baseline time to draw at (30 sec, 10 mins, an hour etc) or a class style drawing period!!! Where it’ll filter through a couple figures at 30 secs, a min, 5 mins, then 10 or more depending on if you choose a 30 min class style or more! The photos are some antique, some contemporary, you can choose nudes or clothes images, specific body parts or animals and all of that!!! And did I mention it’s free!!!! And full of incredible reference photos!!!! Though the body types could certainly be more inclusive unfortunately. There are two sites I found (via @robinsealark) that do this: reference.sketchdaily.net & line-of-action.com/practice-tools These are incredible resources!!! I’m obsessed!!! . . . #figuredrawing #drawingresources #secretrobin #drawingexercises #sketches #nudefigure #nudefiguredrawing https://www.instagram.com/p/BwdXfd_HSRO/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=93c58nx1mi6o
Facial Expression of my OC Marco! My favorite both to draw and how it is finished is surprised
These were short drawing exercises that involved drawing animals and finding what shapes made up each animal. Once finding the shapes and basic form of the animals, it becomes easier to exaggerate or characterise certain parts. This is something that I did with one of the giraffe pictures, to make a sleepy or sad looking giraffe character.
This was a short exercise in which we drew different poses referenced from images of real people. This was something that was very useful for me, as posing and accurate proportions in poses is something I need to work on, and I think I made some good progress on it through these poses.
This was a short exercise we did that introduced different folds and how they apply in different ways. This definitely helped me understand how clothing can fold over different parts of the body, and how to draw this in a realistic and convincing way.
