Draz AU - Squeaking gift
Requested by @cythereephoenix and brought to reality by my cat
He brought us a live mouse while we were eating and I had to put it outside just like Killer
Cross felt a weight on his chest as he was laying in bed, waking him up with a grumble, though he did not open his eyes. He reached out to feel what was on him and felt fur, kinda warm, soft even if a bit dusty it seemed...
- Hello Noot... he greeted the dragon with a smile.
A squeak answered him, and his sockets shot open. Lord Noot was sitting on his chest, staring down at him, a wiggling mouse in his mouth. Noot dropped the mouse, and Cross screamed, proceeding to scare both the rodent and the dragon, as well as the other residents of the castle.
Killer was the first one to rush to the soldier's door, his room being the closest, but didn't even have time to ask what had happened before the mouse ran past his feet, rapidly followed by Lord Noot chasing after it.
- He dropped it on my chest ! Cross explained, panting as he sat on his bed, shaken up.
Killer looked at him, and couldn't stop a smile from forming at the thought of the fierce soldier being woken up by a mouse on his face. He got hit by a flying slipper before he could even make a sound.
- Don't you dare laugh at me ! Go take care of it ! Cross ordered, a purple blush spreading on his cheeks.
The situation was already very embarrassing, he didn't need Killer's comments on top of that. The murderer chuckled, amused.
- Okay, okay ! No need to attack, Tom, I'll go take care of Jerry, he joked before quickly leaving to avoid the second slipper. Alright buddy, where did you go ? He asked out loud, following where he saw Noot run off.
He heard noise downstairs, and afer having grabbed a box in his room to put the mouse in it, he went to inspect. He walked through the hallways for a moment until he saw Noot's butts coming out from behind a shelf. Thankfully, he was next to the back door leading to the garden, meaning Killer wouldn't have to cross the whole castle with a mouse in a box and a dragon by his feet.
- Hey there Noot, he saluted as he opened the door to gain time.
Lord Noot looked up, barking at the skeleton to salute him too before turning his attention back on the pile of carboard boxes next to the shelf. Killer bend over him to see if he spotted the mouse between two boxes, but he couldn't see much. He scratched Noot's ear, the dragon still deserved some congratulations for having caught his prey after all, and Noot was happy to recieve it.
- Hm.. I'm gonna need to move the boxes.. He thought aloud.
He grabbed the first one, pulling it slowly while keeping a close eye for any movement, his own box in his free hand. Noot almsot shoved his head between the box and the wall, trying to catch the mouse with his paws from one side before trying from the other side, but he wasn't successful from there either. Killer put the box behind him, took another look, but judging by how Noot was trying to reach behind another box he concluded that the mouse was farther than that. He sighed, he didn't think he would have had to go hunting in the morning, and yet here he was.
He put his own box on the shelf, he wouldn't be able to trap the rodent in it if it was behind the shelf anyway. He grabbed a tube from an empty wrapping paper that had fallen on the box - they were supposed to throw it away and put it there for later but ended up forgetting about it - and moved it to try and see behind. Noot was shoving his paw in the small space, sniffing the air, trying to reach his prey...
- It's never gonna come out like that... he sighed, fidgetting with the tube.
He noticed it was a bit heavy, and looked down at it, arching a brow as he lifted it to eye level to see if there was something inside. He didn't see the light at the other end. Did they stuff something inside of it ? It wouldn't be the first time they stuffed things into a package to gain some space in the trash can, but in a tube ? He thought for a moment, and smiled when something came to his mind: maybe someone had tried to hide something embarrassing by stuffing it in the tube before they threw it out ? If so, Killer absolutely wanted to know what it was and who hid it. He glanced at Lord Noot and saw that he was still staring at the box, waiting for his mouse to come out.
- Don't catch it while I'm not looking, okay ? Killer told him before turning his back to go to the door where there was more natural light.
The tube was dusty anyway, so better do that outside. He checked again with the light and came to the conclusion there definitely was something inside of it. He smiled and gently tapped the end of the tube against the doorstep to make whatever was inside fall out. The mouse fell at his feet, and the two stared at each other.
- ... Hi ?
The mouse ran away. Killer watched it go before glancing at the now empty tube. Seemed he had found the mouse after all. He went back inside, and saw that Noot was still trying to reach behind the boxes, very unaware that his prey was now freely running outside. Killer put the tube back against the wall.
- You uh.. might wanna look outside buddy, Killer informed, but Noot ignored him, well... technically it's not my fault, I didn't know it was in there, he defended himself against no accusation at all.
Lord Noot looked up at him for a moment, squinting, before he huffed and went back to his searching.
- You know what ? You'll figure it out on your own, I'm sure.
With a last pat on the head, Killer left the dragon to go eat a breakfast that he wouldn't need to hunt down.
When Nightmare was back in command later during the day, he had a really hard time apologizing to Cross on behalf of the dragon as he couldn't help but laugh imagining the scene that he missed and would have loved to see... needless to say, Cross was vexed.
