2. “How long have you been standing there?”
“You’re in love with her, Gendry,” Mya sighed. “You’ve been in love with Arya for years and everyone knows it. Everyone except for Arya, that is.”
“It doesn’t matter, does it?” He shrugged. “She’s my friend - and now my roommate. I’ll never risk what we have, not ever.”
“But what if she feels the same way about you?”
“She doesn’t.”
“You don’t know that. You’ve never asked her.”
Gendry laughed, though it was hollow and sharp. “You want me to ask Arya - my best friend, Arya - if she’s in love with me as much as I’m in love with her?”
He saw Mya’s eyes flash up over his shoulder, turning to horror in a split second, before he heard the door close.
He turned, startled, to see Arya stood by the door. She looked completely stunned and his heart almost stopped beating as he realised she must have heard his entire confession.
“How long have you been standing there?”
Arya shrugged. “Long enough to hear you say you’re in love with me.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah,” Arya smacked her lips together. “Oh.”
“I’ll, uh, leave you guys to it,” Mya said, awkwardly grabbing hold of her bag and heading for the door. “I’ll talk to you later, Gen.”
From behind Arya’s shoulder, Mya gave him a thumbs up, mouthing ‘Good Luck’ at him. He only scowled at her, before he turned his attention back to the only thing he was actually concerned about.
“How long?” Arya asked, shaking her head slowly as if the words she overheard were now beginning to sink in properly.
“How long have I been in love with you? I always have been,” Gendry laughed uncomfortably, rubbing the back of his neck. She looked even more shocked by that. “I’m sorry, I never meant for you to find out, at least not like this anyway and now I’ve fucked everything up an-”
She interrupted him, pulling his face down so she could reach him and bringing him into a searing kiss. A second past before he even realised this was actually happening - Arya was kissing him. His hands went to her waist, pulling her body flush against his own.
“I’m in love with you, too,” she whispered against his lips. “Always have been, stupid.”
