Headcannons: Drew low-key having a crush on Kayla, when Drew was a new camper. Kayla being clueless or choosing not to do or say anything about it
Hi friend-aroony, I headcanon Drew as being a panromantic lesbian so thank you for this prompt! (I also kinda ran with it oops)
- Drew’s first impression of camp was that it looked crazily fun. Her first impression of the Hermes counselor showing her around was that he looked like a trouble-maker. Her first impression of Kayla was that she was beautiful and going to be her girlfriend one day
- It was only a few days before she was claimed. It wasn’t a shocker that Drew belonged to the Aphrodite cabin - she was gorgeous - but all she could think about was the way Kayla’s shoulders sagged when it happened
- She later finds out it’s because Kayla knew of the Aphrodite cabin’s tradition of breaking hearts
- Drew stares at Kayla all the time. Kayla can feel the attention but chooses to ignore it. There’s no way she’d tangle with someone who’d use her
- Drew takes to leaving her secret admirer notes, sometimes with a flower, and Kayla can feel herself softening as Drew keeps sending them
- Drew does her best to convince Kayla how much she likes her, and after months of goading it pays off. Kayla finally agrees to give her a chance. They go on dates, joke around, and have a carefree, youthful relationship
- They spend every waking moment together. Kayla plays little tunes for Drew, Drew plays with Kayla’s hair
- Kayla and Drew talking as they overlook camp. Kayla and Drew laying on the fields late at night, telling each other secrets under a blanket of stars. Drew charmspeaking the harpies to leave them alone, so they can spend more time together
- However, Drew never completed the Aphrodite tradition and her siblings started shunning her. Every time she walked in their cabin, conversations would stop. It’d pick back up again with quiet whispers as they stared at her, gossiping about her, ridiculing her. At meals, her siblings would sit as far away from her as possible; it was like she had a plague. Rumors about her started flying around. They didn’t include her in any activities. She was stuck doing chore duties alone. She felt very alone
- Her counselor said that if she broke Kayla’s heart, she’d be accepted as one of their own and could start with a clean slate
- She enjoyed dating Kayla, but was dying for her cabin to accept her. It’s with a heavy heart and barely concealed tears that she carries out the best way to break Kayla’s heart
- She goes to the infirmary and flirts with one of the Apollo boys, pulling him into a closet she knows Kayla uses to store supplies. Kayla finds them making out and starts yelling. Kayla yells about how she can’t believe she fell for her stupid trick and that she couldn’t believe that she thought for a minute that Drew actually loved her. Drew scathing replies that she should have known to never trust an Aphrodite girl, remarking about how Kayla was only another heartbreak under her belt and meant nothing to her. It physically pains Drew to see Kayla so upset - she feels like dying inside or shriveling up or laying down to cry but she has to keep up her act. Kayla storms out sobbing
- Drew doesn’t chase after her
- Drew is finally accepted, but at the cost of her heart being shattered into millions of pieces. She idly wonders if breaking your own heart was supposed to be part of the plan
- The whole thing turns Drew into a jaded, shallow girl. If she sacrificed everything to be a part of this cabin, she was damn well going to be perfect to fit the part
- It’s why she hates Piper so much. She had to give up everything, but Piper was able to keep her relationship and be happy and not create an entirely new identity like Drew had to. She resents Piper with every being of her body, because if she didn’t have to go through what Drew did, she’d find a different way to make her unhappy
- Basically, this is the explanation of how Drew became vindictive, shallow, and rude - especially to Piper. This is her backstory
This turned out waaaay more angsty than I thought it would I’m so sorry

Drew/Kayla Kayla being skeptical of Drew flirting with her, knowing of the heart breaking tradition. But Aphrodite's cabin knowing Drew is crazy for her
Hey friend! Mod Harriet went to bed but promises she’ll try to work on some more when she’s off of school on Wednesday. In the meantime she told me that I could help her answer some of these
She had been crushing on Kayla since the moment she walked into camp; Drew was always a sucker for red heads, and the green streak in Kayla’s hair made her emerald eyes sparkle. Every time they passed each other Kayla would wave and Drew would blush, a small grin on her face.
Today was no different. She was walking to dinner with Valentina and Phobos; the summer sun was starting to set, but drew thought it wasn’t nearly as beautiful as Kayla, who gave her a big smile and wave. Drew blushed and waved back, stumbling over herself.
Phobos waited until she was out of sight until she looked at her, “Oh. My. Gods. You like her don’t you?”
Valentina squealed “You guys would be so cute together!” Drew went to interrupt but she spoke again, “Oh, don’t even try to deny it. Little miss confident reduced to a hot mess who can’t even walk straight.”
Drew glared at them, “Don’t even try to think about setting me up with her. She’s different from everyone else and I don’t want you to screw it up.” She threw her hair over her shoulder and stalked off to their table***
It was archery practice and Drew was attempting to get an arrow to go somewhat near the target. Kayla came up behind her, “Need any help?” She jumped and sent the arrow far left, causing Kayla to laugh.
“Wow, that arrow was way off target and it’s still straighter than I am.” Drew turned to face her, “I’m awful at this, so help would be welcome - especially if it’s from a pretty girl.”
Kayla looked at her with wide eyes and began explaining the technique, but Drew wasn’t able to concentrate. She was too entranced watching the way Kayla lit up as she talked. When she walked away, the next arrow Drew let loose landed a good 10 feet away
***
It was Valentine’s Day and Drew figured she had to step up her game: it had been a month of shameless flirting but nothing had come out of it. Drew’s confidence in her love skills were dwindling, which is how she found herself standing outside the Demeter cabin, asking a short boy if he could grow some roses and begging him to send them to Kayla.
“I’ll do it. As long as you help set me up with Brianna.”
Drew rolled her eyes, “Done. And add this note with it.”
She went to her cabin and threw herself on her bed. Immediately, a horde of girls descended upon her and a cacophony of voices filled the room.
“Did you do it?”
“What’d she say?”
“Are you nervous?”
“About time you’re doing this.”
“I’m so excited for you!”
“Relax!” Drew sighed softly, “The Demeter kid said he’d deliver them to Kayla but I don’t know what her response is yet.”
She sat up and looked at all the eager faces of her siblings. “I’m so nervous. What if she isn’t into me? I’m head over heels and I’m not sure what I’ll do if she rejects me.”
Everyone rushed to comfort her. Phobos and Valentina sat next to her. “Oh honey,” Valentina stroked her arm, “she’d be a fool to not like you back.”
Phobos nodded, “I agree. You’re beautiful, smart, and kind.” She laughed, “If I wasn’t straight I’d date you myself.”
Her brothers and sister were nodding as a knock sounded throughout the cabin. Drew went white, “That’s probably her.”
She stood and opened the door to reveal Kayla. She took Drew’s breath away. “Can I speak to you Drew?” Seeing all her siblings huddling behind her, she looked at her determinedly, “Alone?”
Drew walked outside, looking wearily at the cloudy sky. She lead her a good 50 feet away from the cabin and any prying ears. She noticed that Kayla held the note tightly between her fingers.
Kayla took a deep breath and began, looking as if she was trying to keep a grip on her emotions. “Look Drew. I understand that Aphrodite’s cabin has their ‘heart breaking tradition’ or whatever, but you’re taking this really far.”
Drew opened her mouth to interrupt but Kayla stopped her and it began to rain, “No, just let me finish. I really like you and it’s not fair of you to do this to me. I wouldn’t be able to date you knowing I was a random person you were using as some sick initiation or something.” She held out the soaking wet note that was asking her on a date, “So I’m sorry, but I’ll have to say no.”
She began to walk away but Drew ran after her, blinking raindrops off her eyelashes. “Kayla!” She kept walking. “Kayla! Wait for me, won’t you?”
She stopped and waited for Drew to catch up. Kayla looked like a wet puppy, her hair plastered to her forehead - Drew was pretty sure that it wasn’t just rain trailing down her face either and her heart broke. Instead of locking that away, however, she let it show all over her face. She hoped Kayla could see her sincerity.
“I can see where you’re coming from, but believe me when I say I’m not using you for that dumb tradition.” It wasn’t easy for Drew to do, but she opened up anyway, “This is hard for me since I’m not someone who can easily express themselves, but I’m going to give it a shot.”
Kayla looked at her intrigued, a hint of hope in her eyes as she shivered in her wet clothes.
“I’ve had a crush on you ever since you came to camp and I’m finally doing something about it. I love how your eyes glow when you’re talking about the things you love and how your smile lights up the world better than the sun ever could. When I’m around you, I can’t help but feel happy and I don’t want that feeling to away. I’m just praying that you’ll be able to trust me when I say that I have no intention of hurting you.”
Kayla looked at her calculating, rivets of water raining down between them. Just when Drew thought she should give up, Kayla surged forward and kissed her.
And being a cheesy romantic at heart, Drew couldn’t help but love the fact that their first kiss was under a tree in the pouring rain.
