I would like to start off by expressing my appreciation for the fantastic faculty and alumni of Drexel and the staff of Hearts in Motion. This trip would not have been possible if not for these people who tirelessly give every year.
In the past week I have learned so much about the Guatemalan culture and the people within it. If there has ever been a time in my life where I felt like I truly made a difference, it was this week. The people of Guatemala are so appreciative for what we are able to give in such a short amount of time. Being able to experience their unique lifestyle has given me insight into my place in the world. I have been able to watch my classmates and myself grow into confident professionals, with the help of our faculty and translators, in the span of just eight days.
The highlight of this trip for me was being able to connect with so many people in a way that transcended any language barrier. Between playing a long game of fútbol, being invited to a home cooked meal, and participating in “Pato, Pato, Gonso”, I know that I truly took part in the human experience during our time in Guatemala.
