okay, full disclosure: i hadn't sat down and listened to 1000 gecs until last month. @motheffigy provided me with a bootleg cd, so i threw it in the rotation. i've heard money machine, obviously, i don't live under a rock, and i'm familiar with stupid horse as well, but that's it. (i can't do the song title quotation marks for this review. it just feels ridiculous.)

i think i would have gotten more into this album if i wasn't already used to 10000 gecs, because the vocals are a lot more grating here (i recognize that it's on purpose ok) and i think i prefer 10000 gecs for that reason. that being said, i still enjoyed this album.

moth was with me in the car for the first listen, and right now is where this review turns into a targeted callout post, because she told me she always skips tracks 4 and 8 (i need help immediately and gecgecgec, respectively), which are essentially just a bunch of random disjointed noises. to me these tracks sound like pastebins for various song ideas that never went anywhere, but i don't know anything about the process behind them.

now, if she hadn't said this, for all i know, i may have ended up skipping them too. it's rare that i do that with my car cd listens, but i can't rule out the possibility. however, because she admitted to skipping 2 out of the 10 tracks on this album whenever she plays it, i immediately reacted with disgust and therefore was required to listen to these songs all the way through every single time, because if there's one thing i prioritize above all else, it's committing to the bit. i actually have nothing of substance to say about these songs. they sure do exist! and i think that's beautiful.

745 sticky and ringtone were probably my two favorites (of the songs that were new to me, that is. money machine is still my fave overall). i also liked xXXi_wud_nvrstøp_ÜXXx, and yes i did copypaste that in here. i didn't even try to type it out first. excluding tracks 4 and 8, all these songs are insidious earworms and i'm sure i'll be humming them for the next few months.

final thoughts: solid album. glad i have it. it feels right somehow that this is a bootleg copy. apologies to the gecs for engaging in piracy, but if it helps, moth obtained the original recordings legitimately, which is why my bootleg is of listenable quality in the first place. the bootleg cds i get from her usually have minor skipping issues, but this time i didn't notice any, though it's entirely possible that the skips went unnoticed in the chaos.
