✿ You Are Not in Control - And Thats Okay ✿
You cant control outcomes ✶ Intentions matter
I was talking to my best friend yesterday, and she said something that hasn’t left my mind.
Since the year is barely starting, I asked her if she had done her New Year’s resolutions or a vision board. And she said: “Honestly, I haven’t. This past year I learned that no matter how much you plan for something, life will just happen the way it wants to.”
And yeah, there’s a lot of truth in that. But it wasn’t said in a hopeful way.
I know my best friend. We’ve known each other since we were five, so I feel confident saying this. She’s always been the perfectionist, the Type A, the planner, the mom friend. One of the smartest people I know. She graduated summa cum laude with a degree in microbiology, and honestly, that’s not even what makes her so smart. She just knows things. Any random fact, any obscure question, anything you’d think no one would know, somehow she always does. Like she has unlimited files stored in her brain.
Her dream was always med school. And she got in. Her life was mapped out, and from the outside, it looked like everything was unfolding exactly the way she wanted it to. And for a while… it was.
But then she dropped out.
That happened last year. And ever since that decision, she hasn’t been the same.
And look, she’s not wrong. We don’t control how life unravels. We don’t get to decide every outcome. But what stayed with me is this: even if we don’t have control, we do have a choice. You can still hope. You can still dream the most ridiculous, exaggerated, almost embarrassing dreams and give them your all, even if there’s a chance they won’t work out.
Vision boards and resolutions aren’t meant to be fulfilled perfectly or in some cookie-cutter way. They’re not contracts with the universe. They’re intentions. They’re about choosing the energy you want to move through life with, even when things don’t go according to plan.
Life will do whatever it wants, yes.
But if you choose to meet life with desire, faith, and hope, something kind of magical happens. Even when things don’t unfold the way you planned, you often end up with something better than what you originally imagined.
