The demon and his dog.
Name: Miles Edmond Hartford IV
Face Claim: Jason Ralph
Age: 25
Height: 5'6"
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Brown
Species: Freshly-turned werewolf.
Powers: Being fairly new to the lycanthropic game, he doesn't have a lot of control over his own abilities yet. But he does have heightened senses, an unexpected amount of strength and agility, a rapid healing factor, increased speed, and the potential to turn into a creepy-looking mutant wolf-thing [his own words, actually]. He's also well-versed in the arts of building computers and developing software, for whatever that is worth.
Weaknesses: He now has allergies to silver, mistletoe, mountain ash, and chocolate to go on top of his other allergies [regular ash pollen, seafood, and soy respectively], a potentially shortened lifespan due to the change he's undergone, brittle-ish bones, and a plethora of disorders. Miles is, among other things, on the spectrum with diagnosed anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder. He dislikes loud noises and crowds and has a tendency to get overwhelmed easily. So why's he in San Francisco? That remains to be seen.
Personality: As aforementioned, Miles gets overwhelmed easily. He's painfully shy and not exactly great at socializing. He's uncomfortable with touch and usually deals with sensory overload on a daily basis. He's clumsy as heck and feels most comfortable in contained spaces such as closets or cupboards or corners. He doesn't like having his back to anything and prefers to be by himself, or thinks he does. Miles was raised as an only child in Maine, so this move to San Francisco was...an unexpected one and he didn't plan as well as he could've for it. He's experienced a lot of unspeakable things; small things, but painful things, and his trust in people is limited. He doesn't talk much when or if he is addressed, but when he does talk, it's usually bland and to the point or a little on the short side. He may have underlying anger issues. But--despite all this, Miles works on projects meant to make others feel more secure. He works hard to protect people the only way he knows how--through firewalls and freeze-frames.
Birthday: August 27th, Virgo.
Role/Occupation: Software developer and online tech support. Freelance consultant for various firms.
Registered: Not yet but the year is young.
Origin Story: He was raised, as aforementioned, in rural Maine. The town was like. Two hundred and fifty people; max, the nearest school about twenty miles away. Miles grew up as the only and lonely son of an accountant and a writer; his father constantly exhausted and his mother distant. Miles spent most of his time roaming the forests and exploring [when he wasn't building things for fun in his cousin's autoshop]. How or why his family moved to the outskirts of civilization in Maine, of all places, when they were in fact from a family from upstate New York remains to be understood.
Miles was picked on a lot in school. So badly that he nearly didn't make it out, so to speak. The school didn't really have the tools to assist with his needs...however, Miles managed to find his niche. He graduated, of course, top of his class and got to move away from Maine for a while to pursue his software interests at MIT. After being expelled just before graduation for "illicit practices", Miles made his way back to Maine to figure his life out--and that is when things took a turn for the worse.
What happened between Maine then and San Fran now is something he keeps literally and figuratively close to his heart. ---
Name: Lucian Carnivale. Usually just by Lucian, though.
Face Claim: Tom Ellis
Age: "Older than you can imagine, younger than seems possible." ok.jpeg
Height: 6'3"
Hair: Dark brown.
Eyes: Really, really dark brown.
Species: A rather spectacular species of demon, if he does say so himself. He's one of the hierarchy of demon princes, or lords, at any rate, and while he doesn't go spreading that around, he certainly doesn't try to hide it when it serves him, either.
Powers: With the ability to cast illusions and make people see what they want to see, Lucian makes it a point to always get to the heart of matters. He can pull the truth out of people in various ways. Scientifically speaking, his tongue can secrete a venom that encourages people to speak the truth. Just as his skin can secrete another toxin that causes people to pursue their wildest and least possible dreams; and he can drive people to pursue poor choices, obscenity, and lose all sense of shame. He has the power of flight and transformation, he can cast enchantments and bespell people. He's an excellent dancer and slays at karaoke. Uh. He can make deals and his word is his bond. Not to mention he masks his true form remarkably well unless otherwise provoked.
Weaknesses: He is repelled by the forces of holiness and prayer as stated by the faithful. Holy ground will hurt him, and he feels queasy around holy symbols. Like seasick-levels of nauseated. There are ways to kill him, but that requires research and a hell of a lot of specifics. Mainly, his hierarchy is linked to the sin/prince of Greed, and all weaknesses attached henceforth. He can reincarnate as many times as is necessary, too, but to seal him in Hell is another matter entirely.
Personality: Suave, debonair, always knowing what to say and who to say it to, Lucian is a fun-loving bugger with a passion for...just about everything. He truly is a reveler at heart, and tries to engage in all Earth has to offer. He is limitless and fathomless in his desires; always seeking new thrills and looking to be entertained as well as educated. While his better [worse] nature is to corrupt and to push people in the wrong direction, he has a soft spot in his heart that yearns for redemption. Not that he'd ever speak of such things aloud. In fact, as far as most people go, he's quite unpredictable and, for all intents and purposes, an eccentric trillionaire living the dream as a stockbroker and business consultant in the San Francisco firms. All he wants to do is live his life, forget the past, and secure a future that doesn't involve him being sent back to Hell [where he was not nearly as favored as he is now, despite all appearances]. He doesn’t offend easily and has a soft spot for good food and drink. He really knows how to throw a party.
Birthday: January 18th. Capricorn.
Role/Occupation: Stockbroking consultant and businessman. Ex-prince. Political advisor when the occasion calls for it. Fashion consultant. Food critic. Liberator. Stylist expert. Sick karaoke singer.
Registered: goodness me, no.
Origin Story: The man who smells like buttered popcorn, hard cider, candy apples, caramel, fairy floss, and a thousand other different unholy scents isn’t as sweet as said smells might lead one to believe. On the contrary, the excommunicated low-level archdemon prince of the netherworld is actually quite the talked-about figure in Hell. Something along the lines of “that one guy with the weird tattoos”; “Beelzebub not this sonnuvabitch again” and a dash of “/inaudible groaning”.
Less tongue-in-cheek, Lucian was the royal formerly known as Carnivale; a prince of Hell’s Circles whose civic and biblical duty it was to drag men into their wildest fantasies and encourage defamation of the prideful. More or less. It got to be dreadfully repetitive, however, orchestrating matters from afar and walking the world in spirit alone.
In exchange for his crown, Lucian slipped into human skin and wore it like a fine suit, adopting an attitude of subtlety in favor of his customary flashy attributes. How or when or even why he left Hell remains to be fully explored, but it’s safe to say he has next to no intention of returning anytime soon. He’s quite content to reside in San Francisco, in a comfortable nest of vipers known as “stockbrokers”. He would’ve taken New York, but he found it too cold and dreary. San Francisco’s booming uprise in business and commerce proved fitting grounds for him to set up his games.
