Jessica hurried into the building with a shudder, shutting the door behind her. The lights slanted in through the venetian blinds on the windows, and the script faded from the door hadn't been of any help; she'd been looking room numbers and building numbers up and down for the better part of half an hour, and the rain-soaked overcoat clinging to her shoulders and the damp hat limping over her brow line showed the proof of it.
Breath heavy and lips parted, she surged forwards towards the office door across the hall. It was a last resort, the last thing she wanted to do at a time like this. Drawing her collar up to obscure her face, she took a deep shuddering breath and moved forward, ivory knuckles rapping the splintered veneer with urgency.
The door swung open, and breathless, she managed:
"I'm sorry for the hour-- But you're the only one who can help."
