I just watched the season 6 finale of Shameless, so this post includes spoilers for that below the cut. Stop reading now if you don’t want those. Also feel free to stop reading if you just really don’t give a fuck about my life, which I also understand completely.
Lots of cursing in this, sorry for my potty mouth.
So, season 6, Fiona’s with Sean. She knows he’s a recovering herion addict and still makes the choice to be with him. That’s all fine and well and good. Problem is, he relapses. He uses again when he’s with her, and he tells her. She moves past it, and then they decide to get married.
On their wedding day, Fiona’s dad, Frank, bursts into the church and tells everyone that Sean is still using. And it fucking destroys Fiona. She knew there was a possibility he’d use again, as there always is with addicts. What she didn’t know, however, was that he was lying to her, that he was using heroin the entire time, that he was high every single time he made her a promise.
Here’s where my bullshit real life situation comes into play.
My brother’s fiancee is a recovering heroin addict. She’s twenty (20) fucking years old and has overdosed five times. Five. She’s relapsed more times than I care to remember. She’s hurt my brother plenty of times, both while using and while sober. Her addiction has driven a wedge between my brother and the rest of our family.
But this isn’t about her. This is about the possibility of my brother spending the rest of his life with her. This is about my brother’s wedding day. This is about the fact that the girl he’s planning to marry very well could show up to her own wedding, to my brother’s wedding, strung out on hard drugs.
Their kids? Likely to be born with the same addiction, if she uses while she’s pregnant. Perfectly innocent children - babies - will have to go through the symptoms withdrawal.
This makes it sound like I have no faith in the girl, and you know what? Maybe I don’t. I’ve given her the benefit of the doubt more than enough times. I’ve been there for her, I’ve helped pick her up and calm her down, I’ve driven her to interviews while she’s trying to get her life back on track. I love her. I really, really fucking love her and I cannot stand to see her go through this again and again. It absolutely breaks my heart to think about her laying somewhere, drugged up and passed out, maybe even dead.
I’m sorry for even posting this, because it doesn’t matter to any of you, and because it’s not what you came here for. But this is the only place I can just... spew this shit without my family seeing it and berating me with questions or worrying about me, or in this case, without harassing my brother about it. Idk, if you took the time to read this, just know that I appreciate you and your caring.
