❝ come on. no one DIED, alright ? look, there may have been a little maiming, okay... a little mangling, but no death. that's what I call an important distinction ! ❞
How does Lydia feel about her father— does she despise him for the fact he's no longer around? Is there hatred there? Or is it more that she just doesn't care?
i feel as if lydia has some very controversial feelings about her father. seeing as i headcanon him as being someone who completely abandoned her and her mom for another family, he even stopped giving them money, i think she does resent him and hate him. she honestly cannot wrap her mind around the fact that he is NEVER around, especially after she almost died so many times. and she also hates him for the fact she was committed into an asylum and he still did not send any financial help. she got hurt so often in the show and the hospital bills, along with eichen house’s, kept wrecking natalie’s bank account but he did not have the capacity of sending some help, or even asking if they needed it.
however she also hates the fact she thinks that way -- like they need him to keep going, which is one of the main reasons why she supported natalie going back to work, so they wouldn’t have to get anything from him. so mostly she is incredibly hurt because he just took off and never looked back. ( with the exception of the teacher / parents’ conference, which he just attended to see just how much of a mess lydia and natalie were, and when she was in the hospital after the season one dance ). she hates how much him leaving impacted her and made her have an enormous fear of abandonment. she hates how much she still cares about him, even though he is gone, because she knows she would not hate him if she did not care ( the opposite of love is indifference ). it did not help that her relationship with natalie was quite terrible up to recently so yeah. to sum it up, she does hate him, but she is slowly getting over it and learning to appreciate the parent who stayed.
